Hello, my screen name pretty much explains me, so pardon me if my questions sound silly. My live-in bf appears to have cold sores. He calls it Lip Fungus, but when I ran that through a search on Yahoo there were no factual articles, except excerpts from that cellphone commercial. Basically, I wanted to know if there was a such thing as Lip Fungus or if it was a Cold Sore he had. If it is a Cold Sores(herpes!ahh!), I wanted to know if I am in danger of catching it even when the cold sore goes away. He told me it was only contagious when the cold sore or "lip fungus" was present. We live together and share everything, but the last thing I want is to catch herpes!

If it is cold sore it is not a problem. Fungus can occur anywere, so if it is fungus there may be a chance of infection. So consult a physician for correct diagnosis is good.

Is almost certainly what you are dealing with . It is a virus that resides in the coccyx at the base of the spine [virtually for ever] putting in an appearance when the immune system is below par & retreating to its hidy hole when under threat from the immune system. It is almost immediatly communicable on a 'kissing' basis . Not a problem to be feared as long as the immune system is healthy , But when the immune system is seriously impaired then can be a bit of a monster. Nat Mur is the best general remedy , read up on it.
