Mother tinctures ARE specific as I explained earlier on the forum. It should say so on the label. Mother tinctures are prepared according to special/very strict requirements and you can always be sure the source material is tested properly by a pharmacist (source material is tested for its purity and authenticity, which we can`t do ourselves as laymen) A herbal tincture can be different in other respects as well, e.g. it may contain more or less alcohol. So you can call a mother tincture a herbal tincture but not always the other way round. You can make a simple herbal tincture yourself, but you can never call it a proper, reliable mother tincture !

It`s wise to always use proper mother tinctures, e.g. Crataegus MT, because they are often used for serious disorders. In case of doubt you can always order MT`s online from the UK. (See Classified Ads Forum)

It`s important to emphasize on a homeopathy forum that not any herbal tincture is equal to a proper mother tincture, since it`s only the genuine mother tinctures that are used to make homeopathic potencies from.

Homeopaths/Phytotherapists should only use/prescribe genuine mother tinctures since this tincture is prescribed in material doses (i.e. doses which are not homeopathic) and he/she should know (and be able to rely on !) that e.g. a 10 drop dose always has the same therapeutic strength etc. for obvious reasons.

Pat......if you see an x on the bottle it means a potency, e.g. 1x, 3x etc.

Sometimes 1x is considered to be the mother tincture and can be used as such. This should also be mentioned on the bottle.

If you don`t know what you are doing don`t self-prescribe, but leave it to a professional !

If you buy mother tinctures from the large reputable companies (See Classified Ads Forum) they are always OK.

Also see topic called : Brief explanation of preparation mother tinctures ......on this forum.

Pat.......Eyebright is a well known and safe herbal tincture (sold in the USA) to make a dilution from for an eyewash (for people and animals) in the way I described earlier.

Tracy.... full name is Crataegus oxyacantha mother tincture (made from Hawthorn Berries). Other names for this tincture are : Crataegus laevigata or monogyna. (Key uses are : rapid heartbeat, weak heart, fast, feeble and intermittent pulse, palpitations, possibly accompanied by fainting and collapse. Also sometimes used for lowering high blood pressure.)

For ordering online in USA : http://www.homeopathystore.in/buy/cr...anthaoe_mt.htm

Yes, Wim, I read your thread on MTs, and that's why I got confused. If someone prescribes a MT, then I always assume that is what they mean.

The only contact information for Homeopathy USA is in Mumbai, India, so I am assuming that is where their products are shipped from.

Yep, Crataegus oxyacantha tincture (berries only!) is what I want. When I run out of what I'm using now (or decide I don't like it), I'll just have to order from the U.K. or India to be sure of what I'm getting.

Tracy....did you check out the website mentioned above......the Crataegus ox. is made under supervision by Dr. Wilmar Schwabe and is a proper mother tincture and is very cheap indeed and can be ordered online in the USA (or UK).....I`d say your problem has been solved or hasn`t it ?

Yes, Homeopathy Store - sorry - I said Homeopathy USA in my post for some weird reason.

Sorry, Wm - there is no US address associated with this website; therefore, I can only conclude that all products are shipped from India.

Do you know differently, perhaps?

India is correct....you can read this in : About us.....But I see no reason not to order if they ship them to you. Mother tinctures from India are usually very good.

Oh, I have no problem with remedies or other related products from India. That was never the point.

There simply is no U.S. source for MTs. That's all I was saying. We can get all kinds of herbal tinctures, but not MTs.

We Americans - we decide we want something, and we want it YESTERDAY. No patience. (*grin*)

That last thing I ordered from overseas (Germany) took 7 weeks and the cost to ship this tiny little thing was $40.00. Since then, I'm pretty careful about buying outside the U.S. unless I have to.
