Pat, hairballs are balls of hair caught in the stomach of the cat. It is caused by grooming by the cat. Most all cats get them at one time or another. The owner regularly grooming the cat with a comb or brush will help a lot to keep them from swallowing hair. You can also give them some fish oil 3 or 4 times a week to help ease them thru them to be eliminated thru the backend. The other way they are eliminated is for the cat to throw them up...
I have also found that growing a pot of grass from oats or wheat helps them to eliminate them thru their bowel movements. Both the cat and the dog love the wheat grass I am growing for them. There is the added bonus of a few extra vitamins possibly and definitely the cloriphyll that is in the wheat grass. I would not use regular grass seed as most of the time it is treated with pesticides and can make your kitty sick. And you won't need a remedy for hairballs if you do the above. A good combing 3 or 4 times a week is the biggest help. I have a nylon pocket comb that works great on both the cat and the dog. It's tough and won't break yet will get down and get out the undercoat that will be getting shed soon. Julie |
