oh oh... Hi Wim. I am actually asking for a young 15 yr. old girl who just called me. Her goat has a very hard 1/2 of her udder (other side is fine)
The girl has not been able to get the flow going much at all and the doe has rejected the baby. I am not experienced at all with mastitis (and should be) so what should I do?

I have quite a few remedies here so I am hoping that I have what you might tell us.

--How long (approx. ) has this doe been suffering from this problem ?

--Was she exposed to cold dry winds ?

--Does the udder show redness and swelling ?

--Is there obvious pain on palpation or evident pain on pressure ?

--Are her pupils dilated ?

--Is there oedema of the udder and surrounding tissues ?

--Is there relieve of pain/discomfort when you press the udder ?

--Is the doe lying down ?

--Was there any injury to the mammary tissue ?

--Was there a prolonged or difficult kidding ?

--Are there any large clots in the milk or small clots in mid-lactation ?

--Is the skin hot ?

--Is there any strerile udder secretion ?

--Is there any lumpy induration of the udder giving it a lopsided appearance ?

Don`t give any remedies yet......please answer the questions a.s.a.p.first........then I`ll give prescription. (You`ll most likely need Phytolacca 30c and Urtica urens 200c)

Give Belladonna 1M, one dose every hour for 4 doses.

If you haven`t got this potency give Belladonna 30c, one dose every 2 hours up to 6 doses. Thereafter reduce to 3 times daily with improvement.

Keep me posted because another remedy that matches the then presenting symptoms may be necessary.

To stimulate the milk secretion also give : Urtica urens 200c, twice daily for 3 days.

Keep 10-15 minutes or so between giving the 2 remedies. Please follow prescription strictly !

Hi Wim

I am bedraggled here. The people are poor and don't have resources and I had to make some decisions. I did the best I could and they came here for me to give them "something " to help.
Here is what I did which isn't what you said (sorry we missed I hope I did not botch the whole thing).

I told them to use peppermint massage along with an herbal salve I had plus use some colloidal silver in the massage water.

I gave them Hepar Sulph 200c and told them to give one dose a day for up to 7 days plus I gave them Aconite 6 c to give 4 times today only.
??????? did I mess everything up...? I feel sad that I miss connected with you.

Carlene.....everybody knows I always check the forums several times a day (also on Saturdays and Sundays), also because I`m moderator here for several forums......it took only 26 minutes (!!!)to give you this last prescription (see 2 previous posts).....this doesn`t happen on any forum in the whole world !.....you didn`t follow the Pulsatilla prescription correctly for the other doe either.....so I just wonder why you do this and didn`t ask here first. You can`t expect me to pick up the pieces and moreover, please bear in mind homeopathic remedies are powerful medicines. In addition, peppermint often antidotes remedies ! Hepar sulph. in low and high potency have completely opposite actions ! For goats Hepar sulph.12c, if indicated, is usually prescribed in this situation. Aconitum is only prescribed in the early acute stages in 10M or 10MK potency.

We are about to kid today and the little girl had called in the middle of my chores and I was trying to get my "girls" comfortable and get on the internet with you at the same time... They a boy who is in jail called and I had to deal with that... (he is very needy and I am sending him books).

OK Carlene......I hope you`ll understand it`s very disappointing if people don`t follow prescriptions correctly, but moreover, this may cause unnecessary prolonged suffering or incorrect treatment of animals.

I`m always extremely busy on and outside the forum with many (shelter) animal and human cases and I simply can`t afford to waste too much time.

Sometimes my daughter keeps an eye on the forum. She is a qualified hom. professional as well and also a qualified teacher of English etc.

Hepar often antidotes Belladonna, but you should start the Belladonna anyway.
