Default Over-sensitive horse

Hello and thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge!

I have a 7 year old mare that I bought 4 or 5 months ago. She seems to have a split personality. I basically know very little about her history. She is extremely over-sensitive and flighty on the ground. She is "cinchy" when you saddle her- she will wring her tail, stomp her feet and hump up. She may or may not buck when you get on her, but once she is done, she rides out nicely and is pretty dependable under saddle.

I have taken her to the dentist, the chiropracter and have tried accupuncture. I've even spoken to an animal communicator who suggested she has hormone trouble and an irritable stomach. She is consistantly like this, it doesn't seem to be worse when she cycles.

Thanks again, she is a nice mare and I am hoping I can relieve her pain!

Hello Brenda, (My family have some horses too.)

Perhaps your mare is suffering from anticipatory anxiety/fear. Not easy to cure, but certainly worth trying !

First try Argentum nitricum 30c, one dose 2 or 3 times daily for 2 days before her `ordeal` (i.e. before the day you`ll ride her) and if still necessary every hour on the day you ride her (but no more than 6 doses altogether on that day).

One dose for a horse is 4 tablets or 6 larger pellets which can be given/incorporated in a soft piece of brown bread or a piece of (preferably organic) carrot or piece of apple.

More remedies are possible and if necessary ask additonal advice/new prescription !

Thank you, Wim.

She does suffer from anxiety- mostly during saddling, but once I'm on her, she's confident and tough. The saddle seems to fit her perfectly. I'm worried that she is hurting somewhere (I know the vets think I am neurotic!). I will certainly try your prescription. I am a complete rookie with this stuff, so I'll apologize in advance for ignorant questions. I have no homeopathic remedies here now, are you able to recommed a source for supplies? Thanks again, I appreciate your time and advice!
Brenda

Hi Brenda, You`re welcome !

I think it it must be a kind of `performance`anxiety. It`s possible you`ll need Phosphorus 30c too, so it would be wise to order this remedy as well.

There should be several possibilities to order remedies in your country, but I live in the Netherlands and don`t know all the (good) companies in your country. You could try HomeopathyOvernight (type this in the Google searchbox).

Many people order their remedies online from Helios UK and Ainsworths UK. They ship their remedies to nearly every country.

Great! SarahG gave me the name of a company to order from. I have placed an order and hopefully will have them in a week.

She will be ridden daily. Should I give her a couple days off while I dose her? Thanks again!

If you ride her every day you could give the remedy (if it works) each time for 1-2 days with intervals and repeat if necessary.
