Curare (Arrow-poison/Strychnos toxifera/Woorali root) is found in South America and this paralyzing poison was traditionally extracted by native South Americans from this and other Strychnos species for use on arrows during hunting. The resin is extracted from the tree and macerated in alcohol.

Key uses are : heaviness, numbness, physical weakness, piercing pains, progressive muscular paralysis and impaired reflex action.

Those who respond best to the remedy Curare tend to be hurried, irritable and aggressive. They want to be alone and may behave maliciously towards others. A loss of moral judgment is also possible. They often have a history of self-abuse, perhaps involving biting or hitting themselves, or ripping their clothes. Typically they can only eat small amounts of food at a time. Classic symptoms associated with Curare include weakness, heaviness, numbness and piercing pains. Progressive muscular paralysis and impaired reflex action may also be treated by this remedy.

Symptoms worse in cold winds, in dampness, in cold weather, at 2 a.m., with movement, on the right side of the body. For symptoms better there are no specific factors.

Veterinary use of Curare :

This poison produces muscular paralysis without impairing sensation or consciousness. Reflexion is diminished and a state of motor paralysis sets in. It decreases the output of adrenalin and brings about a state of nervous debility.

Alimentary system : In the mouth buccal and facial paralysis occur.

Respiratory system : Difficult breathing may be so severe as to threaten respiration entirely.

Extremities : Paresis of muscles is preceded by trembling of limbs.

Skin : Boils appear accompanied by itching. There`s a tendency to cutaneous haemorrhage in the region of these eruptions.

Uses for animals : Some forms of post-distemper paralysis may be helped by this remedy, notably those in which the dog shows no involvement of the central nervous system. Paralysis of single parts, e.g. radial, may benefit. Post-influenzal debility and weakness in the horse may also show improvement.

Potency : Usually 6c (12x) up to the 30c or 30k. The 3c (6x) is seldom used. For pseudo-hypertrophic paralysis the 200c or 200k is used.
