Default Arnica (behavioural problems) Part 1 and 2

Some time ago I mentioned (on another forum) the versatility of Arnica in veterinary homeopathy and that Arnica even sometimes can be used for constitutional treatment of animals, esp. dogs, suffering from the following problem, viz. self-mutilation.

When a dog (suddenly or gradually) shows behavioural disorders after trauma (injury), e.g. after having been involved in a car accident etc., Arnica may offer a solution to this problem.

Self-mutilation, i.e. nibbling at body parts-- is a disorder that can be so severe that bits are actually chewed off. The dog suffers from symptoms that result from protracted physical exhaustion, such as stress, trauma, disease, under-nourishment etc.

Even if the trauma occurred a long time ago, there`s still a good chance that this problem will be lessened by Arnica.

The Arnica dog has a strong urge to move around and is restless, despite the fact that every movement is painful. It dislikes being touched or massaged and may react aggressively.

Constitutional treatment : Arnica 30x (D30 in some countries) (if not available 30c or 30k), one daily dose for 6-8 weeks. Don`t stop giving the remedy within 6 weeks to prevent relapse !

Higher potencies are sometimes necessary, but should be given under guidance of a professional !

To be continued in Part 2.

Default Arnica Part 2

Symptoms/Keynotes for constitutional prescribing of Arnica for animals, apart from bleeding and shock, are :

-- Animal doesn`t want to be touched.

-- Is exhausted and every touch and movement hurts (sometimes it`s difficult to locate the exact pain area ).

-- Skin and mucous membranes may be more or less inflammated, usually no painful spots though.

-- Often much salivation, vomiting (because of nausea) and gastro-intestinal inflammation with diarrhoea.

-- Irritation of spinal nerves.

-- Trembling followed by much fatigue and diminishing muscle strength with general numbness.

-- Restless, strong urge to move around (despite the pain).

-- May react aggressively to touching, rubbing, massaging etc.
