Default Homeopathic Remedy for Cat

Hi,

Our cat was poisoned a little over a year ago by the medication Metacam. This drug is not to be given to cats (which we learned later). Anyway, about a week after taking the last dose, she began vomitting. We finally found a vet who discovered the poisoning and said that her kidneys were failing. After four days and nights in the hospital, her CREA was about 5.2 - normal high is 2.4. We gave her lactated fluids every three days for three months. Her CREA had dropped to 2.4. The vet was stunned. We began giving her fluids every six days for six months. Her CREA remained at 2.4. She has CRF - renal disease.

A couple of weeks ago, she began to cough. It sounded like she was trying to cough up a hairball, but nothing came out. Her regular vet was on vacation that week. Since the poisoning, we only trust one vet. The coughing got worse so we had to bring her in. The vet thought that she might have asthma, but made no diagnosis. She did test her blood and her CREA had raised to 3.2.

When her vet returned, she looked at the x-ray and determined that she had asthma. We were told to give her an antibiotic three days in a row and then every other day for the remainder of the two weeks. We also give her turbutaline - a bronchiodialator - seven days in a row and then every other day. We refuse to give her steroids. We also give an antihistamine called Cyproheptadine. All of these are to be given until Monday for her re-check. Her coughing has practically stopped.

The other re-occuring issues are a limp. It has come and gone three times over the past 15 months. They took an x-ray once and determined that there was a tiny bit of arthritis, but nothing of concern. She also picks at the hair on her tummy. I tried Bach Crabapple, but this did not stop her.

Can anyone help me select a homeopathic remedy that might help her?

Thanks!
Gary

Hi Gary,

How long did you try the crab appel? Maybe you can give Vervain (for obsessious behaviour, compulsion) Also give her Olive and maybe try the crab appel again.
The first homeopathic remedy that comes to mind is Arsenicum Album, the MM gives also a description of pulling out hairs!! Asthma< midnight Also used with kidney failer.Does she like warm places? (my cat always lies on the central heating elements)
If you have a Materia Medica, look it up.

Mirjam

Hi Mirjam,

Thank you for your response. I will look up Arsenicum Album.

We gave her Crab Apple in her water for about six weeks or so. I gave her some this morning in her water dish. I'll look into Vervain and Olive.

She loves the heat. She usually finds the spot where the sun is shining on the floor and basks.

Thanks for your help!
Gary

Hi Mirjam,

I did some research on flower essences. What do you think Olive will do for Chloe? I didn't see any explanations that connected with her conditions. You mention Vervain for compulsive behaviors?

What do you think of White Chestnut? This is what I found re: animals:

Animals

Useful for obsessive behavior -- persistent licking or chewing of the skin or paws until raw, persistent scratching, lashing of the tail.

Animals that exhibit restless sleep can be calmed with White Chestnut.

Good for illnesses that appear repeatedly such as allergies, rheumatic disorders brought on by the weather.

Thanks!
Gary
