What can I do to relieve her pain and swelling? I am particularly worried about the lump near her puncture wound(chin area). |

Thank you for your posting. We did take "Precious" to the vet who prescribed an antibiotic. There still seems to be quite a bit of swelling under her chin where the two puncture wounds are. The swelling looked about the size of half a tennis ball the day after. And on day two it subsided to about the size of a golf ball. I have applied a warm compress on the wounded area under the chin and around her lip where the back molor was yanked out.
Will it still be okay to apply what you recommeded with her on antibiotics? Thank you again for your thoughts on the matter. kellie |

if you are familiar with lots of homeopathic remedies then it might have been a good idea (still might be) to prescribe Ledum, par excellence for punctured wounds with the strong modality of being >>> ice applied, so if the dog seemed to appreciate the ice application then consider Ledum. Joy

As far as i know, there is no infection. Rather, the two dogs got into a fight over a bone. Our Lab, Brandie pulled the bone out of our terrier's (Precious)mouth. When she did, she inadvertantly pulled out Precious' back molar and punctured her chin in two places. The Vet thought is wise to prescibe an antibiotic because the molar apparently was rotten and there was a lot of swelling in the jaw where the molar was lost and the chin where the puncture wounds ocurred.
Now since this happened on Sunday night the swelling has slowly gone down, however Precious will not let me look into her mouth and check her jaw. i have continued to do the warm compresses and give her the prescribed antibiotic. I am still concerned about what is going on inside her mouth as she won't let me take a peek. Her teeth are in pretty bad shape as she is 14 years old. Thanks again for your concern and comments. Much appreciated. Kellie |
