Exclamation Sick Bunny?

I have recently obtained a cute Holland Lop bunny (May 14th as a mothers day gift). Estimated 1.5-2 months old. She is active and curious, but in lies a problem. I have not witnessed her eat anything but Alfalfa, and also recently descovered alfalfa is too rich for a bunnies diet. She abesolutely refuses to even look at any vegitable, literally turns her nose up and takes off a few hops. Same with recomended fruits. She also has a "dirty bottom". And I have yet to see her clean it. I see no problem with her otherwise. I have been recommended to return her to the store purchased and/or get vet assitance. I cannot get vet assitance, for they are all booked and I fear for Medori's well being. She is quite the cute lil bunny, and I remind is active. But does not lay as a healthy bunny would. She sleeps on all fours, in a ball. And I am told they stretch out to relax and sleep. I have not witnessed this action either.

I am in need of some advise.

Unhappy

I am just looking for advise other than what was told to me by a friend who breeds.

She does not know if its life threatening and this is my first bunny. I have no idea what to do, but have been reading online on the do's and don'ts for their care taking.

Thumbs up

I have found out her problem, GI Stasis ... I myself could not take care of her, so she stays at the vet over night for a few days. (Just updating on the problem.) I guess if she pulls through all will be well. Until then I will possibly keep this posted.

Hello and welcome to the homeopathic forum. I have had dosens of rabbits in my lifetime, just love them they make the best pets. I know their habbits well. Alfalfa is fine and or oathay or just the bunny pellets from the petfoodstore. Once in a while a carrot with the green still attached. But not too many veggies they will get the runs no fruit.

Your rabbit might be in shock from being moved . Abandoned from their family of other rabbits. Bach flower makes a remedy called "rescue remedy" can get it at a health food store, give the bunny just a few drops in the water bottle. It will help with the trauma. Rabbits dont always lay flat when they sleep, most time sit in a tucked up ball and sleep. They are verry sensitive animals and fear everything, keep them away from your other pets for now.
My rabbits have only taken homeopathics and bach flower for medicine nothing else. They are healthy as ever,no problems.
Hope this helps
Gina Tyler (i like the photo) (please dont give your rabbit antibiotics)

Thank you for your reply. The vet had stated what was wrong with her and I could have simply taken care of her (Of course this was after I had to pay for two nights stay >_<) She is home and happy about it. She cleans herself now regularly, though they did give me antibiotics for her? So I am not to give them to her? I am going to listen to you on this one. I've never heard of a bunny needing antibiotics.

I give her a small hand full a day of alfalfa and dark greens, her diet is mostly pellets. No fruit? I heard it gives them the runs in large amounts, but she is not allowed to have any? Like banana chips made just for her? Well if you say so then I guess I will eliminate those from her diet.

She is now a healthy happy bunny. She runs and plays just as they are suposed to and now will not stray far from me. When I pick her up I get greated with little kisses (licks) and purring. I believe she is settled in.

How long shall I wait to introduce the house cat? (He's lazy and has no front claws) My mother-in-law insists they become best friends, but I am not sure I should let them meet.

Thanks again Gina!! (She was trying to lick me in the picture. ) (I will not give her the Antibiotics)

Hello again
For now JUST give the pellets and alfalfa,no greens,no fruit at all. In a few weeks you can give the rabbit carrots (organic ones with the green part still on them) The cat will be a problem for a long time,it will cause loads of stress for your rabbit. I will share a nightmare story with you,be aware its not a happy story but i will forever learn from this.
I had adopted 3 baby rabbitts a few years ago they were in my back patio running happy for days, one day i came home and saw a cat had got in from the neighbors house and decapitated one of the baby rabbitts this horrid cat still had the bottom half of the rabbitts body in his mouth and the head was laying by my door. The other two rabbitts were emotionally hurt witnessing this event.
