Question monthly prevention

Hi -

I'm fairly new to homeopathy and am wondering what types of remedies or treatments are out there for dogs for heart-worm, flea/tick/mosquito prevention. One of my dog's is allergic to the K9 Advantix. I thought about putting him back on Revolution, which does all the prevention except mosquito. My vet's office just informed me that they've seen many cases with dogs on Revolution that still test positive for heart-worm. Obviously, this concerns me. The little bit of research that I've been able to do seems to show that the more common homeopathic treatments simply do not work. Can anyone suggest other resources for me to pursue?

Thanks ~ krischi

You would need to be building up the health and immunity of the dog over all so that the dog's own system could fight off parasites. Unfortunately that your dog is allergic to Advantix suggests that health is already declining, and the past treatments with Advantix and so on will make it harder to build him up, and harder for homeopathy to work. According to Martin Goldstein ?Goldberg? (?) not sure I have author name exactly right, a book on Natural health for pets, dogs who have good health in general are able to fight off the heart worms (and other problems) without getting seriously ill. I'm not so sure there is much to be done in this regard for this dog, but you might want to consider starting your next dog off with natural diet, no (or as few as law allows) vaccines and so on.... Try some good books like by Richard Pitcairn DVM and Don Hamilton DVM and the Martin Gold? person's.

Default Homeopathic vet

Edward De Beukelaer at edward@debeukelaer.fslife.co.uk was recommended to me if you want to consult, for payment, a homeopathic vet re this case. I have not used him myself. He does do "cyber consults." I believe you can read one or more articles by him and other homeopathic vets at http://www.hpathy.com/ezine/. Not all articles there are by homeopathic vets, but some are.

Good luck.

For heartworm treatment I use

* Artemisia Combo
* HSII
* Black Walnut
http://www.jeanesholistics.com/heartworm.html

I have been using this treament for many years.

For flea/tick/mosquito prevention. I use this spray.
2 1/2 tsp. (pure) Neem Oil, 3 drops lemongrass oil, 10 drops lavender oil, 5 drops cedarwood oil, 1 tsp. baby oil and water. In a clean spray bottle mix together the five first ingredients into the spray bottle and then fill the rest of the bottle with water. Shake well. Spray on your dog before going outside.

Dear sue-----------thanks for posting that link great website ,i agree the use of essential oils works great for flea,ticks,worms...etc. Much healtier methods of helping our pets than what the average allopathic vet practices. The ongoing increase of pet cancers is largely due to toxins we place within reach of our pets(vaccines,fleameds,herbasides,pesticides....et c) There IS A WAY to have our pets stay healthy using "holistic methods".

You are very welcome Gina. If most pet owners would read about the side effects from pharmestical heartworm treatment they would think twice before giving it to their pets.

* Higher doses in dogs may cause tremors, dilated pupils, and loss of body weight, vomiting, diarrhea or death. Side effects in cats include agitation, loss of appetite, staggering, dilated pupils, tremors, blindness and disorientation.

The main ingredient in pharmestical heartworm treatment is
* ivermectin- a drug mixture of two structurally similar semisynthetic lactones that is used in veterinary medicine as an anthelmintic, acaricide, and insecticide and in human medicine to treat onchocerciasis.

Studies with ivermectin indicate that certain dogs of the Collie breed are more sensitive to the effects of ivermectin administered at elevated dose levels (more than 16 times the target use level) than dogs of other breeds.
