Both are lively and ravenously hungry (already treated once for worms). The boy has a clear discharge from his nose and a chesty, phlegmy cough but is a good weight. The girl is the runt, underweight but with little discharge and the same cough. I dowsed the suggestions in the George Mcleod book three days ago and Ant. Tart. 30c and cat flu nosode 30c, both once a day, came up. They've had two doses of both which seemed to increase the coughing - is this the healing crisis? They're eating cooked chicken and fish and have had oral antibiotics for five days. The vet suspects they have feline herpes and I'm wondering whether there's FIV or FeLV underlying their ill health. Sadly, the mum was left to roam when she was in season and so the chances she picked up these viruses is high. Any suggestions? I've grown too fond of them to give up but I am unemployed and cannot afford to visit an holistic vet. Current treatment is funded by a rescue society. |

Its not a good idea to mix therapies like this. Allopathic meds my give impressions of symptoms not actually part of illness. If allopathic treatment is being funded, best to stick with that for now or talk to the orgasnization about switching to a homeopathic vet instead.
If the kittens were infected with FIV or FeLV I doubt very highly that they would be improving (they should already be dead). If herpes is suggested, pay close attention to the eyes, this virus can cause devastating ulceration, even with treatment I've seen many cats with permanent corneal scaring. This is one of the nastiest URD out there and very often can lead to chronic infection, so pay close attention. Many "head colds" can sound like they are in the chest but they are not. You have to listen to the chest with a stethescope, if you hear crackling or fluid, the condition can be very dangerous. Ant t is good for this but probably not my pick if its a lot of head conjestion (which usually herpes is). |
