Hi all,
Well new to the forum and hopefully someone can help. I have a Maltese called Cindy she is 18Lbs and is 14 years old.
Approximately 6 years ago she was diagnosed with Diabetes which over the years we have managed to maintain her sugar levels, but there were times when we had so ups and downs (I do regular home testing of her glucose levels). Overall she had done pretty well considering that she also lost her eye-sight, treated her for Glaucom and Corneal Ulcers with homeopathy and herbal tinctures which did wonders!!..... she even regained some sight, much to her Opthamologists surprise. Well approximately two months ago I could see that she was really under the weather so to say.... and took her back to the vet for some blood work. Well the verdict was in... she was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure - Late Stage. I'm devestated!! but will pull myself together and hopefully find something to help her get back to an almost normal way of life again.
Her symtoms are Lethargy, weakness, nausea, coughing, lack of appetite and has become very picky with what she will eat. Have to hand feed her in the morning (Farina, with Eggwhites, Applesauce and Sweet-potatoe with little cream) I then give her 1 oz of raw beef as a "Good Girl" Treat which she so far is still eating on her own. The Vet has said that there is not much he can do for her except that we keep her sugar levels balanced and make sure that her diet is LOW PROTEIN, HIGH FAT, WITH COMPLEX CARBS. I have tried certain renal diets and she will not eat anything. (Home-cooked). She will not eat any of the fillers (Carbs) ie., rice, potatoe, pasta, so I'm really having a hard time to find a balanced nutirtional diet for her, but trying my best. I'm also very restricted with certain foods because of her diabetes yet still have to get her to eat so that she can get her Insulin.
She is currently of Sub-Q fluids daily to help with dehydration because she is not drinking enough on her own. This seems to help her energy levels. Her vitamen regime is COQ10 - 20mg, Vit E 200iu, Tried to give her B12-Complex but the smell of the vit is so strong and I think it nuseates her even more.
Have also started a Kidney Extract called Renetrate which I give her 1 caps 2 x daily.
Does anyone have any other ideas for me with regards to mabe some homeopathic remedies which might help with nausea, appetite, coughing or stomach upset, lethargy etc.. Does anyone also know of any other helpful remedies to regenerate or help her kidneys function better. Apparently the doctor said that she does'nt seem to be expelling the toxins.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Rosanna and Cindy.
