Here is what happened today: Chiu woke up very affectionate, but not really playful. His left nostril had a little discharge and a small greenish plug, which I removed with twirled up tissue paper. He was very sensitive to my probing - tried to push me away, but we got it out anyway. There was a little residue still, but he got that when he groomed his nose with his front paw. Surprisingly did not seem unduly itchy, just a natural groom. He was, however, somewhat itchy on the right side of his neck and especially just below his right ear. The inner part of the left nostril seemed just slightly swollen, but not inflamed otherwise. I should also mention that he had received a dose of Hepar 200 the night before the Nux 30. He spent most of the day on the back deck watching birds and sleeping in the shade. Did not seem to seek out the sun as much as usual. He usually spends some time in the sun and some in the shade. But today it was only shade. Later, he came in and curled up on my chest while I was reading. I noticed his smell was unusual: kind of very fresh, almost with a hint of something like chlorine. We do not use chlorine or bleach on anything in or around this house. Tonight he vomited his food, which could have been because we started on a fresh batch of meat, but not necessarily, because I had noticed him seeking out plastic earlier, which he does on days he throws up. He also tried for the plastic after vomiting, both times I told him no and he stopped. The only other thing I could add is that he seemed to get over the after-effects of vomiting faster than usual. Vomited only twice and felt better after very quickly. Right now he is sitting on my arm and purring relentlessly. Should we wait on the Nux a few more days? Will await your further instructions. With thanks, Szoki |

Yes we'll wait some more time and then decide if she'll need a repeat.
There definitely something changing. Regards, doctorleela

Hello again,
Here is the latest: On the 16th, Chiu woke up very affectionate once again. Very slight discharge from left nostril, no plug. When I wiped his nose with a tissue I was surprised to find that he was not at all sensitive to the touch on his nose. Usually he is, he will pull back and wrinkle his nose and scrunch his eyes. Not this time. He was still pretty itchy on the right side of his neck, especially near the base of his ear. Spent most of the day in the sun on the deck. Pretty lively in the evening. Good mood overall. He gets very playful after visiting the litterbox in the morning, usually about 10 minutes after we wake up. I believe he only urinates in the morning (not meaning that he doesn't urinate all day after that...), but can't say for sure. If this is important, I can check up on him more thoroughly. Next two days were similar, except that his nose had no more discharge at all in the morning, or all day for that matter. Today he sounded a little stuffy first thing in the morning, but otherwise showed no signs of discharge. Even that "sound" cleared up pretty quickly. Maybe I imagined it (?). The itching also seems to be easing up somewhat, day by day. But the shedding still goes on relentlessly. This is worrisome, as he never used to shed before. If you wanted to get a hair off this cat before, you would have to yank hard. Now it floats off like snow everytime I pet him - and since I pet him a lot, I expect he'll be bald by Christmas... Seriously, his hair really is thinning noticeably. Especially around his neck. At first I noticed that his "seams" (where the hair meets when growing from opposing directions) were not as sharp and pronounced as they used to be. Now it's to the point where I expect to start seeing bare skin pretty soon - never mind the seams, they're almost gone... And the hair on his back is much lighter than it was. Older sealpoint Siamese get darker on their backs with age, as the circulation decreases. Chiu is not getting his youthful color back, he is just losing a lot of the dark hairs off his back. Please let me know your thoughts on all this. Thank you, Szoki |

Dear Szoki,
My impression of this whole episode is that the chemicals of the mattress that have affected you all, have affected you kitty too. And I have a feeing he may have had a lie on the mattress or something? Either some direct contact or the fumes were so toxic, they have completely weakened his hair follicles. that is the reason fr the shedding. I expect in time, these follicles will strengthen and new fur will sprout. The damaged ones are going to fall off anyway. One thing you culd do to help this is make a very diluted solution of Calendula Mother Tincture (5 drops) and Arnica mother tincture (5 drops) and using cotton wool, rub it all over his body. You culd do this twice a week or so. MAybe GPM or Kkrista would have a better idea on how to do this more effectively, as I'm not sure if one bathes a cat. No harm if he licks it up. warm regards, doctorleela
