my cat has a bad ulcer on his left eye. there is thick yellow discharge and pink skin growing on cornea, i am putting cod liver oiil drops in and bathing with eyebright and calendula. the vet advises an operation where they suture the third eyelid together to help it heal faster. i've decided to see how the zovirax eye drops help.
i know homeopathy can help lots with eyes but i don't know what remedy and what potency. can anyone advise. i don't want him to loose the eye or the sight. it looks pretty red and inflamed and very little of the healthy cornea is visiible. |

Not quite sure about the reason for using Zovirax which has the following details linked to it.
Zovirax 5.1 Pharmacodynamic properties To the top of the page Aciclovir is an antiviral agent which is highly active in vitro against herpes simplex (HSV) types I and II, but its toxicity to mammalian cells is low. Aciclovir is phosphorylated to the active compound aciclovir triphosphate after entry into a herpes infected cell. The first step in this process requires the presence of the HSV coded thymidine kinase. Aciclovir triphosphate acts as an inhibitor of, and substrate for, herpes specified DNA polymerase, preventing further viral DNA synthesis without affecting normal cellular processes So the cat is being treated with a anti herpes medication. As far as homeopathic remedies go you are using eyebright which is the common name for the remedy Euphrasia and that seems to be the best thing to use internally . Suggest you get Euphrasia 10m in liquid form and give a single dose and wait a week. This is an opinion - others may offer better advice . |

Hello Eire,
If the ulcer is more deep-seated and has a punched out appearance and lachrymation of a yellow colour then the right remedy is : Kali bichromicum 30c, one daily dose for 7-10 days approx. In case this doesn`t have any effect continue with : Phosphorus 30c, one daily dose for 10 days approx. One dose for your cat is 1 tablet or 3 coarse pellets to be given dry in mouth. Don`t touch remedies with your hands but give straight from the bottle/container or from clean spoon. Good luck ! Wim (William)

Hello Eire, (I forgot to tell you about the eye wash)
In conjunction with one of the remedies I mentioned above, also use Euphrasia eye drops. Bathe the eye 2-3 times daily with a solution made up from 5 drops Euphrasia MT (mother tincture) in half a pint (250 ml) of cooled down boiled water or distilled water. (For chronic cases we usually use Cineraria eye drops, which are prepared in the same way as Euphrasia eye drops.) If the eye condition is really painful for your companion and is damaging the cornea, also consider Symphytum 30c. Dose every 2 hours up to 4 doses, then 3 times daily until improved.(Dose is the same as mentioned above)Give remedies with some time in between (20 minutes or so). Wim.

Bear in mind that the whole process of curing may take several weeks ! Don`t give/use/apply anything else than the things I mentioned ! Only continue the cod liver oil (vit. A !) one drop daily in the eye. W.
