Doctor Leela

We just got the results back on Casey's blood platelets. After 3 weeks on the Doxycycline, Prednisone and giving him the Calc Carb there has been no improvement. The platlets are still at 21,000. He seems to be feeling a little better, his spirits are still very good and his appitite is great, he has even gained a little weight back. We are going to start backing him off the Prednisone. Hopefully this will help with the incontinence problem (he did not have this problem before starting on the Prednisone). His vet seems to be stumped as to why there has been no improvement although his appearence seems to be better. We have had no signs of bleeding at all since we started the treatment three weeks ago. You had mentioned that if the Calc Carb didn't work we might try Calc Phos - How much, how often and what strength do I need to give him of the Calc Phos? Any suggestions that you have are welcomed. I just want to get my boy healthy again.

Thank You,
Beth

HI BEth,
I think you could repeat a dose of Calc Carb again. Its been 3 weeks has it? COuld you get a 30 potency instead?
No need to change the prescription yet. Tell me in a week this time. How long does the Vet want to continue the Doxy. Hopefully now that he's tapering them off, we'll see a better response. Its difficult to evaluate the response of the weight gain and the appetite, as the steriods could be responsible for them too!

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Yes, I was finally able to find the calc carb 30 potency. How much do I give him of this potency? He is no longer taking the doxycyline (been off of it for 2 1/2 days now). We have cut back the dose of prednisone to 10mg two times daily. Everything else with him remains about the same. Thank you so much for all your help and concern!

HI BEth,
Start a dose of 30C tonight, adn lets see when we can repeat next. With a 30C it becomes easier to repeat. We can do so even once a week.

Could you make any other observations of symptoms and changes for me. Its important in evaluation. Especially changes in his nature/behaviour etc.
Thanks,
Doctorleela

By a dose of 30c....this means one tablet, correct? I don't mean to sound dumb, I just want to be sure I am understanding correctly and giving him the correct amount.

Also, you asked about any changes. Yesterday he seemed like he did not feel that good. He wasn't as perky as usual, he just layed around as if he didn't have any energy.... Yesterday the weather was cold and dreary here. But, today our weather was much nicer and the sun was shining....Casey seemed to be more perky as well. I didn't know if that would be important or not. Also, over the past few weeks it is as if he knows that I know something is wrong with him and that I am trying to help. He has always been very independent but has been more under foot than usual lately. The only other thing I can think of at this time is the way his eyes have looked since he has been sick. It is kind of hard to discribe...I guess maybe they have kind of a hollow look to them. Or maybe the eyes look different since he has lost weight and his face is not as full as before. Like I said, it is hard to discribe but they do look different to me.

Let me know if I did not give him the right amount of the Calc Carb. (I gave him one tablet of the 30c) I will take him back to have his blood work checked again next Thursday. I will check in with you and keep you posted on any changes and how he is doing.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate all your help. Thank You!

Beth

HI BEth,
YEs one pill may be enough if they are large ones. If they are small ones, 4-5 is OK.
Like I said earlier, if there is no significant improvement in his moods and weight gain (and platelet count) with a couple of more doses, we could move on to Calc Phos instead, in 30C.

I'm interesed in understanding this hollow look in his eyes. Sounded a bit like he's pretty depressed. Was there any incident that could have sparked off this whole episode? Sometime when he did not feel loved, or felt rejected?

Also I think you need to look into his diet very carefully. GIve him natural, nutritious food and avoid the canned stuff. Maybe you could ask someone like GPM. She's very knowlegeable about these things. Try emailing her privately.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

Hi Doctorleela

You asked if anything might have happened that to make him feel unloved. The only recent thing that I can think of is after he got sick and started having the incontinence problem he has had to sleep in the laundry room (tile floor) at night. During the day I let him in the carpeted part of the house with a diaper on him. But, at night I cannot keep an eye on him like during the day and sometimes his diaper leaks. Up until this he has always slept in the same room with us at night. At first when he had to start sleeping in there it was like it hurt his feelings but now at night I tell him it is time to go to bed and he go without any problem. It has gotten to be a routine. That's not to say he like it though. I do have a baby gate I put across to doorway so he can still see into the rest of the house. So, it's not like I shut the door where he can't see out. Other than that we have pampered and loved him even more than usual since he's been sick.

The last three days he has seem to feel good. His spirts have been good, at times he almost seems like his old self. I just hope this continues!

The incontinence problem seems to be improving some since we have lowered the dose of prednisone. It seems to be better during the day but at night when he is sound asleep it's about the same.

This is all I can think of for now. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for you help. Will be in touch again soon.

Beth

Hi Doctorleela

I took Casey in today for another blood work-up. Unfortunately the results were not good. His platelet count was between 20,000 and 21,000. At the time he seems to be feeling pretty good. I am getting very concerned that he may have cancer. Cancer in the Boxer breed is a very common problem.

After treating him for an autoimmune problem due due to a possible tick bite with no improvement (which I don't think was the problem to start with) the vet had two more suggestions: 1) there could be a problem with his bone marrow 2) he could have a tumor that could be triggering the autoimmune problem. Either of the two could be pointing to cancer. Even it it were a tumor, they could not operate because he would bleed to death as his platelets are so low.

We are going to decrease his dose of prednisone by half and hope that he does not start the bleeding again.

I really do not want to put him through any more test as he has been through so much already. It is just hard to understand how he could not be improving on the inside when all of the outward signs are looking much better. (good spirits, good appitite, seem to be content and more like his old self than he has been in weeks)

What would you suggest from here? I am open for any suggestions you or anybody else might have. Thanks for all your help.

Beth

Hi Beth,

Even if the cause is some sort of malignancy, which is always an underlying suspicion, it does not change the homeopathic treatement.

I think we can carry on and see if he would also require a specific antimiasmatic. Best is to avoid to much of interference especially with Allopathic medication (unless clearly indicated).

We should be vigilent for repetition of another dose of CC30 by watching for even a slight drooping in Spirits or any other symptome that comes up. How much Prednisolone is he on now?

I'm sorry about this Beth. All I can say is that its more important that Casey is feeling better and not suffering, and that we can do with homeopathy.

All the best,
Doctorleela
