Have just acquired (late last night)a small female half-Burmese of dubious age.
Supposedly 10 weeks but is very small & I think she is probably much younger.
She hisses and spits whenever anyone goes near and is totally unsocialized. Her previous owner dusted her with a disgusting flea powder & dosed her with a supermarket worm tablet prior to us taking care of her.
I have been using Rescue remedy on her which helps calm her.She shakes uncontrollably. Sinks her claws into everything (we all have shredded hands & arms) and it is really difficult to move her. She hisses at everyone but is better for being held.(gets lots of Reiki from daughter & me)
I did a quick rep and this morning I gave her a clean by using a cloth dipped in Ign. It removed all the flea powder and she seemed quite OK with being cleaned.
A little later, as she still stank, I repeated the process with a little lavender oil in the water, and again she was OK about being cleaned.
This evening she has finally eaten & we have given her some kitten formula by dropper as she didnot seem to be able to drink from a bowl.
Now she has started to have green gunk oozing from her eyes.
Am I right in thinking this is a result of the remedy & should I leave it or look for a new remedy for the acute (eyes) & go back for the behaviour later?

I would give walnut along with the rescue remedy..for transition I usually put both in a small spray bottle with water and just mist the animal lightly to dose.
I couln't tell my your post if mental improvement had come with the green goop...if not I think you need to work her case. Denise

Thanks Denise,
I have Walnut, so will give that.
Some mental improvement & at last she has eaten & had fluids on her own.
Lots of green gunk in her eyes this morning so have bathed with Euphr.
I'm looking toward Puls as she's > being held. She's stopped shaking so much.If she's left for a while she goes back to her hissing.
She's(no name yet)starting to take a bit of interest in what is going on. She doesn't seem to perturbed by our labrador who has been very good.
When we took care of her, she was brought to us in an Esky (ice chest)that had no ventilation & the chap hadn't emptied out the water in the bottom, so she was traumatized by the enclosed space & water. I don't think she had been fed much either as she is skin & bones and when she ate last, she hunched over the food as if to guard it.
She has a box with hot water bottle & is able to view all that passes by from a safe spot.

Have been cleaning her eyes with a solution of Euphr. today and the green has turned to a creamy white, less profuse. Also continuing with RR & one dose of Walnut.
She has been eating well and is not as guarded when near food.
She still likes to be held & went into a sound sleep earlier this evening when I was holding her.
Still hissing (still no name either).
Gave her a Puls about an hour ago and she has finally made a noise other than a hiss. Just checked on her and she is not as tightly curled up in her box as before - so she is starting to relax - looking a little more interested in her surroundings.
It's lovely to be able to hold a cat again( my last one died in May of nephritis at 16 y/o - also half burmese)Partner is not impressed with the zoo - dog, guinea pigs (3 babies went to the pet shop today) wild magpies at the front door, fish inside & in a pond outside, yabbies & 2 kids!! I'd have more of everything if space permitted

ozzie,

Glad to hear the kitten is settling in.

I don't know if things are the same in Australia as here in the states regarding the breeding of small pet animals for resale. Our shelters are filled to the brim with rabbits, gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs that were purchased for children and then surrendered to the shelter when the novelty wore off. (Actually, our shelters are filled to the brim with every imaginable species of animal.) When a small pet is sold in the pet store there stands a good chance it will eventually end up in the shelter or worse. People who want to have a small pet join their families should consider taking one that has already been discarded, not supporting breeders and pet stores producing yet more.

Those who make it to the shelters are the lucky ones. There is always a market for cheap, small pet animals such as bunnies, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, including "free" kittens, as live food for "pet" snakes. Very, very rarely do these little "pets" end up in a permanent home where they live any kind of meaningful life.

I second gpm's post. In fact we just adopted a guinea pig from a shelter that serves only piggies - she had been purchased from a pet store for a young child and then the family got a puppy so she was neglected - her fur was horribly matted - nails turned into her feet and very skinny.

she is a real sweety, will sit with my two year old for a long long time on her lap bveing loved and petted.

For the kitty it sounds like the PULS is doing well but keep in mind arnica as it is recommended for animals who have been neglected or had a fright.

Warmly
Barb

Thanks for the suggestions,
gpm
I hadn't thought through the consequences of pet shops... we don't breed the pigs for resale or profit, they're part of the menagerie that the kids have acquired, but we don't have space for all the little ones. I worry for poor mother as she seems to have only male babies & knowing g/pigs couldn't let them stay.
Next time I will advertise for loving homes.

Kitten is settling down & the kids are teaching her to play. One child downloaded cat sounds for her and she responded to that.
Gave another dose of Puls. which seems to improve her. With each dose she eats and becomes more adventurous.
She still has stuff coming out of the eyes & this morning I have bathed it in Calendula.
I really want to avoid going to the vet as I know that an antibiotic will be prescribed & he will want to vaccinate. She hasn't had any - but will have to at some stage as the kennel won't take her when we go on holidays.
Still hissing but hasn't scratched us lately. Is also showing interest in the dog - especially his tail which wags constantly!
I will try a dose of Arnica & see how that goes.

Thanks Barb. Your little piggy is very, very lucky to have had this chance with your loving family. The last time I was at the shelter (where I spend far too much time) there were over 100 adorable rabbits waiting for someone to love them. This is a small shelter that only had 25 cats. Rabbits, mice, rats (who make absolutely wonderful friends), gerbils, hamsters, ferrets and Guinea pig surrenders are very overlooked. We need to not "buy" any more animals or encourage breeders to produce them. Until all those who are homeless have found a spot to live safely, no one should in any way add to the overpopulation. Thanks for sharing where you found your little furry friend and for being wise enough to not support a "pet" shop.

Hi. We adopted our cats, Mickey and Meesha, from an animal rescue league. They are so special and loving. I agree about the pet shops & breeding. There are just too many unwanted animals in shelters just waiting for homes.

Little cat has a name now (Buttons)& has improved in health. Eyes are clear, breath still a bit yuk, but doing lots of kitten things and just smooches up to the dog.
Still timid but 100% improved on how she was. Gave her an olfactory dose of Nat Mur yesterday, and today she has allowed us to pick her up without hissing.
Saw gpm's post about vaccinations& was very interested. We go "bush" every year and the animals have to be kennelled. Our kennels require them to be vaccinated, but will see if they will consider homeopathics.
