Thumbs down

Hi, our little hairless rat is sick with the common respiratory problem they get. Is it called microplasm or macroplasm? He is losing weight, congested sounding respiration, and jerks a lot. Is there something that can be done for him?

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by "Jerking" Debbie.
But if you give me a few more symptoms, I'd be able to help you out better.

At the moment Phos and Antim Tart come to mind. IF the weather is very cold, then even Hepar Sulph may help.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

Kescah,

Respiratory problems respond well with Bryonia. Also, Belladonna acts well upon the nervous system too (twitching, etc. which it seems is evident in your little animals case).

It would help to know additional symptoms, but Bryonia has helped our animals over the years, especially when they had respiratory, pneumonia, etc. problems. Best of luck.
Sincerely
Ruta

Poor thing, he is having so much problem breathing that he his breaking out of his cage, which he couldn't do before and coming to us! How horrible I feel not helping him. I once treated a rat with Med for this because I thought the disease was called macroplasm (overgrowth.) Twice he recovered that way, but then someone told me it's not macroplasm, but microplasm!!! It never worked after that- explain that!! Good heavens. Placebo acting upon prescriber transmitter through vibs?

I tried Ant t on him as he has a lot of rattling sounds when he breathes, but it didn't help and I'm not sure if the fluid is in the lungs or upper respiratory area.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Debbie

Son says the rat can't eat well for the fluid, so I think it's in the nose or throat.

I'm so sorry to hear that your sweet little rat is having such difficulty. People don't appreciate how wonderful rats really are.

I can't be of much help, sorry to say.

May I ask what potency Ant T was used and how frequently dosed? I don't know how similar treatment would be but if there is rattling or fluids sounds in the lungs Ant T 12C in water, repeated (you know how, just dissolve one pellet in about 2 ounces or less of water and stir briskly about 10 times before each dose) worked well with squirrels that had similar problems. you can repeat every 15 minutes or even less in emergencies. (Ant T in 200 seemed too high for squirrels.)

Another thought would be Phos?

Can you put your ear on him and see if you can tell if originating from throat, chest or nose? Wait, you said nose or throat.....sorry. But sometimes, if the lungs are filled to capacity with fluids you won't hear the rattling any longer.

Can you put him in a room or confinement area with a vaporizer to try to break up the fluids if they are in his nose/throat? Can you give him or put on his ears, some Rescue Remedy? Have you tried Acon? Use as high as you have on hand, 10M or more. Again, in water. A few drops at a time. Can you hold him upside down...I mean hanging from his back legs and tap him on his back? Is he better if he has his head high or on an incline, raised up?

I hope Geir sees this soon on the other BB or Dr. Leela gets back to you here.

Thank you for the suggestions. Right now he is sleeping peacefully so I don't want to disturb him. He did this after the Ant t 30c that I gave the first night, and so I thought Ant t was right, but the second dose didn't seem to help. My son says he seems better when he is asleep. I'll see what I can do of the suggestions you made when he is awake- maybe a vaporizer now, so thank you.

If you feel that Ant T has helped him sleep better, then it must have been a good choice. Sleeping peacefully is such a great relief.....for you as well as for the little guy. I wish you both much good luck.
