Michal,

We'll need a few more symptoms:
Describe the nature of your dog.
Also what are the factiors that make the itching better or worse?
What time or season make a difference?
What does you dog like to eat or dislikes?
Anything else peculiar that you will be able to tell me about him.
Also a littel background history of how the itching first started and where he was born, things like that.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

Red face

Hello,
Hope someone can help.
My dog is suffering from some sort of allergy since she was a pup till now it was under control. She is 5 years, intact.
Her signs were itching and scratching usually at the base of her tail, belly and sometimes back of the neck
This last week she started to scratch at a higher and higher frequency. The pattern has changed now and the itching seems to be concentrated at the spine and down from there to the side of the body, collar area and all along her tai – tummy is completely clean….. She is miserable and so am I. I read some books and surfed the internet and came with two substances – sulfur and sepia. So I would like to try if one of them will work. Both are of 30cH (they are apart, not in the same bottle).
Any advice of frequency of treatment??? How can I know if it worked or not?

PLEASE HELP…..

Michal

Hello doctoleela :- ))

Thank you for answering me !!!

It's a bit long, and I will add any details you feel are needed.
Please pardon my English since it is not my primary language :->

A female, 5 years old intact, long double coat.

Size:
She is very big (72 cm tall, 51 kg).

Nature and preferences:
Prefers cold places.

Sleeps a lot.

Loves to swim and getting wet in general.

Very friendly to humans, especially small children.
Friendly to dogs, a bit reserved with a very big ones.

Fearful of track and buses - noise.

Fast learner, sometimes even to the degree of cunning.

Loves to play but is not possessive of her toys.

Demand attention

Not vocal - barks a few time a day..

Never pull the leash.

Run after cats but never do more then that - the target is the chase only.

Very jealous toward the house cat - especially when her food is served.

Food preference.
Will eat almost anything. Sometimes refuse a banana and lettuce.
prefers to eat sweet things and strong smelling things.

Does not like her dry food but will eat it willingly with supplements.

Health history:

Heat cycle normal but had a few false pregnancies.
Never gave birth.

At 1.5 Y had Ehrlichia canis - treated successfully with antibiotics - Doxilin.

Had a mild ear infection - cleared very fast.

Skin rushes since 2 months of age - manly on stomach. Since then it came and went with some cases of hot spots - on the back of the neck and the left side of the body. One place at the base of the tail usually showed some degree of redness.
Treated successfully with antibiotics and special shampoos. Last two year relatively quiet - used Noni juice and capsules every day with great success.

Current crises.
Started a few weeks before getting into heat got worse just before and then it was weaker during and 2 weeks after. Since then (6 weeks) got worse and worse.
A stale smell accompanied these last occurrences smell is like old oil - some oil on the coat exists and felt on my hand s after patting the coat. High frequency of scratching leads to breaking the skin. In some wounds the skin is dry and crusty, in some wet with a little secretion
Little wound are found all over the top of the body, sides, and start to form on the head. Tail in very infected also. Curiously, the stomach area is completely clean and the skin has a very health color.

Wounds are treated with tea tree oil and a little apple vinegar (1:1 water: vinegar). Treatment is drying the wet lesions but does not stop reoccurrence.

I would also like to notice that she tend to scratch more when not given attention - patting and fondling…

Today, I gave her a blood test and seems the readings are good.

Miscellaneous:
Born to a large litter - do not have details not I think it was a normal birth. In June.

I tried once to breed her - using frozen sperm - she did not become pregnant and it was thought to be the sperm quality was bad - low count.

When growing - (she grow too fast) had problems with her legs - every time a different leg heart.
Was a very clumsy pup - used to fall all the time.

To these days she does not have a perfect movement - rear legs are too narrow from the back and little cow hocked (what some people call - loose hocks).

I think she will do well with a dose of Phos 200.

But I'd like to confirm a few things:
Does she like to drink water cold or warm?
How does she show affection to people around her?
What else is she fearful of besides noises?
What do you mean by cunning?

Should be decided with the next post!
Warm regards,
doctorleela

Hello again doctorleela

But I'd like to confirm a few things:
Does she like to drink water cold or warm?
Definitely cold, as cold as possible.

How does she show affection to people around her?
Wet kisses, smiles (wide open mouth) Touching hands with her nose. Wiggly tail but not to the point when it heart you if hit by it. All is all very tender.

What else is she fearful of besides noises?
New things.
At night – objects in the street she can not identify.
Man with beards <LOL>

What do you mean by cunning?
She develops all the time new ways of how to get what she wants even though she is taught otherwise.
Example… there is a room in house she is not allowed in. What she learned is that in the minute I live the house and lock the key, she is free to do as she like…it took her two occasions to learn it.
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michal,
You dog definitely will do well with a dose of Phos 200.

Keep me posted on the developments in a week, and we'll see if there is a need to repeat.

Your most welcome!

warm regards,
doctorleela

Michal,
I think it may have been better to leave the ear infection alone. There may have been some suppression earlier.

Wait for a week, and don't do anything on the ear. If the itching reamins the same, then repeat a dose of Phos 200 again. (we may have to give an intercurrent dose of Sulpur sometime).

Calendila ointment is very good for healing, especially the very bruised areas. Good to keep it with you.

Warm regards,
doctorleela

Dear doctorleela,
Sorry for not posting earlier, I had problems with my Internet connection.

I’m sorry to write I see no major changes, though there is small improvement.

She is still scratching and itchy, although just maybe with less frequency, she still has small wounds all over except for her abdomen area.
She also developed 4 days ago an ear infection; the same side she had a mild one years ago. I treated her with Epi-Otic twice a day and it works very well.

The improvement I see is that the wounds are not moist, they are more of the “dry” sort with a crusts, the skin has a slightly better color but is more flaky .

Any suggestion with be accepted with gratitude

Thank you again

Michal
