Question

Almost 3 year old neutered male, black & white long haired, very affectionate, fairly well behaved for a cat, became somewhat of an outdoor cat this summer due to a litter of kittens he didn't get along with. He recently urinated twice on some paper that was on the floor (couldn't get to the litter box, the door was closed by accident ) and both times it looked like almost all blood. I know urinary problems are fairly common in cats, but is there anything homeopathically I can do here, or is it time for the vet? He eats regular dry cat chow, and does vomit and/or has hairballs frequently.

Thanks,
Sunny

Hi! It's time to get kitty to a vet to get the UTI cleared up. Homeopathic Cantharis or Apis could help him too, but he could be in pain by now and if his urethra blocks it will be fatal. Also, to prevent this in the future you MUST change his diet. Dry food is the number one cause of most urinary problems. He needs a natural diet, raw foods. The best option I have found is the Dr Pitcairn Natural Health for Dogs and Cats book. Please get kitty to a vet and then I can help you out with maintenance if you need it. Pls email me privately with questions/concerns...

GM is an unknown quantity at this point
Wink

Nonsense dont help the cat, whats the problem here is a kidney stone, neutered cats cant eat potash containing food, cause that gives them kidneystones, (kalium) give the cat one dose kalium carb 200.

Yes, do what GM told you to do, he knows everything. I can only tell you what I have personally experienced with my own animals, what has worked for me.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

Sunny,

Both Dawn and GM are saying about the same thing because dry cat food contains the potash GM says is the offender and Dawn suggests not using dry food. I have used Kali C with great success (thank you GM)for a long term chronic blockage problem per GM's suggestion, when other remedies had failed and the kitty was almost beyond hope. (Check archieves.) And Canth is listed, along with other remedies, under blood in urine with frequent attempts.

Kali carb, will dissolve the stone, a other rem as cantharis will heal if its infected, but only if the stone is removed, lycopodium may also be used to remove a stone of unknown origin.
So, Dawn, i know it all as you say, and you need not to be offended, cause i have many years of experince you dont have.
happy holidays to you to.

Hello all ~ It's very difficult to diagnose on a bulletin board and that's not what classical homeopathy is about anyway. However, in animals, we do well to first clear up an acute problem, or a flair-up of a chronic condition and THEN give a constitutional remedy. So when one person says give something for a UTI and another says give something for a kidney stone, the caretaker of the animal has to determine if it's a UTI or kidney stone. That's where the vet comes in. The symptoms in this case can point to either one of these conditions or something else entirely! Best to be sure...

Thanks everyone

To clarify, kitty doesn't seem to be in any obvious pain, appetite is good, the urine I've seen passed was a good quantity not just bloody drops or anything, and he doesn't seem to be making frequent attempts. As for the vet, well, I'll find a way if I must, but $$ is at a premium right now, that's why I hoped I could try something myself first. I've got no idea if this is a UTI or stone. He's had many, many ticks this summer and fall. Being outside so much and only coming home every several days, they had gotten a chance to grow quite large. Do any of the tick diseases cause bloody urine as a symptom...anyone know?

I'll plan on giving the Kali-c unless someone says otherwise based on above info.

Thanks again,
Sunny
