Hi,
Until you hear from someone more qualified to assist your kitty, you may want to try the complete nutrient gel called NutrCal, since he isn't eating. You may be able to temp him with beaten egg with a touch of cream (sometimes they like a pinch of salt and vanilla in it). Does he drink at all? Could try some chicken broth, cooled parsley tea or barley water...to make pour 3 cups of boiling water over one cup of whole barley, let steep overnight, strain and add 2 teaspoons each of honey and pure lemon juice (from Richard Pitcairn's Natural Health for Cats and Dogs which you may want to refer to as he has several diets for cats with kidney failure in it. I am going under the assumption Mao is having kidney problems but could be way off base. If so, my apologies in advance.)

Has the abscessed tooth been resolved? Oral or injectable antibiotics used?

Wishing you the best and commend you for having taken such good care of Mao that he has lived such a healthy, long life. Cats can live quite a while after the acute stage of failure if carefully monitored and supplemented with the fluids.

Hi,
Sorry no one has been able to respond to your post yet. In the meantime, Richard Pitcairn's book suggests: Calcarea Phosphorica (calc phos) 6X and Natrum Muriaticum (nat mur) 6x, one each together morning and night, for several weeks. Then taper off to twice a week. As an alternative, Tissue Salt Combination, 2 tabs morning and evening. George Macleod's book, Cats:Homeopathic Remedies suggests Nat Mur in 200C, one dose three times a week for 4 weeks , followed by 10M potency and CM potency given in the same way. Again, I am assuming this is kidney failure.

I'm not sure GM would agree with these methods and/or remedy choices but it may not hurt to try the lower potencies Pitcarin suggests until you hear from him.

Dear JPKATZ,
Very sorry for your loss. Mao was very lucky to have had a wonderful 20 years with someone who cared about him so much.

Dear JPKATZ,

I am sorry you lost such a loving companion, I am comforted to hear he passed peacefully.
When I read your post, I felt you two had experienced a wonderful relationship based on trust and mutual respect that brought joy to each of you.
I know how heart wrenching it is to love one enough to let them go. I hope his peace lingers with you and warms your heart.
