Hi,
There's a Stallion, who is 2 years old and he's out of his mind at times.

There are two young stallions at the stable, and the other one is normal (he is high strung, but most are at that age).

The one I'm wondering about - can't even be led around on a lead, as he pulls this way and that - bites people, bites other horses...tries to mount other horses - even other stallions and geldings!! In fact, he'd mount just about anything if allowed!!

He also tries to get out of his quarters - and jumps up (putting his front legs over the rail). He's just out of control sometimes.

No previous mistreatment, so can't figure out where this behaviour is coming from. Especially comparing him with the other stallion, who is high strung, but can be led around, and doesn't bite everything!

Any suggestion please?
Much appreciated,
Lisa

Precisely why I always say the males of any species can't be lived with if not neutered!!!!!! Geld him!

(Hope GM understands that I'm kidding him!)

Seriously though, it is a dangerous situation if trying to mount near fences or structures...we did have a stallion impaled on a post that way.

that is not an option -and he is not mine to make that decision...also, i don't agree with gelding, unless it is absolutely the last resort.
And, he's not even broken properly, yet...so who knows...he's only 2 and could change dramtically as he gets older...he's just a mental case at the mo!
thanks for your input, though...

Okay, I gave the Nux 12x (in a piece of apple which Show-Off loved!) yesterday and went back today for the second dose (same time of day) today.

I asked if anyone noticed a change since yesterday (after the first dose) - and they said Show-Off was a lot calmer than usual. He wasn't rearing up - although he was trying to nip and bite still.

But funnily, when I arrived at the stables today, I didn't see him in his stall at first, but as I walked toward him (I was about 400 metres away) his head popped out and he stood there eyeing me. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I got the feeling he remembered me. In any case, I asked the Groom to put his halter on and lead him, so I could observe him. Show-Off let the Groom put the halter on (this has NEVER been a problem, luckily) and Show-Off resisted MILDLY to being led out of his stall. He didn't want to walk forward, but with some coaxing he did, albeit reluctantly. He did jerk his head up several times, and his ears went back! But that is about all he did!!!

He did NOT rear-up...and when I asked the Groom to put him back in his stall, I then gave Show-Off his 2nd Dose of Nux V. Show-Off let me stroke him...and didn't try to bite me, but did sort of nip at me (I didn't get the feeling he was being terribly aggressive at all towards me). But, when the groom went to stroke him - Show-0ff tried to bite him and the Groom smacked him on the nose. I told the Groom he MUST NOT hit Show-Off EVER again...that it would only make things worse!! (I was assured by the owner, who came running up to berate the Groom, that this was not the norm and not condoned at all.) The Groom profusely apologised and said he did not know this (he's not that well-educated, but his heart seems in the right place, oddly.)

Anyway, when I asked Beryl what she thought - she said that Show-Off was better and calmer than before the dose of Nux V.

So, slight improvment. I will go tomorrow and give the 3rd dose in the afternoon.

I will post again - any changes.

Thanks much!
Lisa

the key is that nux works..and give it yes. then wait and see if he need it again, its the fodder..fungus, bet on it, a horse dont drink as a human, and get angry and horny..so some poison it is..bet his belly is a bit swollen..ask how his stools are.
