Hi Everyone,
I'm asking for your help with Sunshine who has chronic constipation. Poor little guy has been through alot. He is having problems again today & I just got his old vet records so have enough info. now for history.

Sunshine is a 7 year old Blue Point Himalayan neutered & declawed male with Blue eyes born 09/25/93.

Took him 4 months ago because owner was going to euthanize him. Wife had redecorated home & didn't want cat. Owner was gone 80-90% of time & wife kept cat locked in basement/den with Pomeranian when he was not boarded at vets.

He is very sweet, gentle, affectionate & vocal. Chatters instead of meows. Likes people & other animals. 2 cats in house chase him & are nasty to him. He runs from them & avoids them. I try to keep them away from him but he is still timid when he sees them.

Likes warmth, quiet. Snuggles close to me in bed at night, especially when he is not feeling well. Likes shoes, catnip, fish, & drinks water frequently. Likes to stretch out with belly up. Likes to be petted & brushed. Likes to be held at night. Comes to get me to go to bed. Likes outdoors (I go with him every evening). Loves BabyKitty & follows him around, imitating what he does. Chatters when he wants something or to greet you. Afraid of movement &/or noise in dark. Walks like a baby cub bear, kind of lumbers but as if he has a definite destination. Body will go limp when picked up. Has really brown tarter on teeth. Chews to R side. Chews & chews anything moist. Eyes water when eats. Prefers dry to wet food. Trying to get him to eat more wet with bites of raw chicken. Hoping to transition to raw. Now eats PetGuard Chicken/wheat germ a little but wants his Wysong dry after few bites of wet.

Chronic runny eyes R worse. Excessive shedding, scratching & licking of fur. Chronic constipation. Frequent visits to litter box, if passes any stool is hard, dry, dark small in quantity & large in diameter. Have used cold processed virgin olive oil 1-2xweek with fair results. Last week gave 1xday for 5 days with good results. Passed more, softer stool & some hair. Also vomited some hair balls. Does not cover litter when finished. Will sometimes lie down in box after no results. Stay there 5-15 min. Will lie down at food dish at times when having these problems. Has been 3 days since last gave olive oil & problem has returned. Gave some slippery elm/water with few drops olive oil earlier today, so far no results.

When first got him had small amt. of diarrhea. 3 weeks later noticed he was constipated. Took him to vet. Following is his vet history starting with this episode.

05/06/00 Severe constipation-X-rays showed LARGE fecal mass. Enemas 3 days. Vet suggested surgery to remove most of large intestine-I refused. Sedated with Ketamin/Valium & feces digitally removed. More enemas. Given Lactulose & Laxitone. Prescribed Propulsid which I refused. Cat would not take Lactulose, Laxitone at home very well.

06/14/00 exact same situation with same treatment. Vet adament about surgery. Refused.

Took home & was not feeling well at all.I made appt. with holistic vet. He got outside in back yard & was chased by 2 dogs. Was home at time so got dogs before they got to him. He was very scared but I thought was not harmed physically. Gave couple drops diluted Rescue Remedy.

06/17/00 Took to holistic vet. Running temp. so she referred him back to allo. vet. She suggested olive oil & gave him an adjustment.

06/18/00 Allo. vet found lacerations on both back feet, inside toes with nail bed infected. Said must of cut feet on something when chased in back yard. Sedated & cleansed wounds. Sent home with antibiotics, Clavamox, for 2 weeks with foot soaks 2xday alternating epsom salts & diluted hydrogen peroxide.

Feet healed well. Started shedding, scratching & licking excessively.

07/21/00 Holistic vet said no problem & released him.

This is his past vet history which I just received:

Dearest GM,
Once again, a warm and sincere "thank you" from me. I remembered from archives about the potash but missed the soy in relation to cats somehow. I will change his food immediately. I will order remedies tonight and give according to your directions.
Thank you so much for being here
Warm Smiles, onebabykitty

Hi GM;
Just to let you know that Saturday evening Sunshine seemed very interested in smelling and exploring his surroundings. Sunday afternoon he started limping really bad with his Right back leg. He had a tendency to give in to that leg and X-rays showed he had a problem with his hip joint. That is what the holistic vet had adjusted him for. By bedtime Sunday night he was bounding up the stairs 3 at a time and has shown very little weakness with that leg since. He also pottied outside his litter box once. He did this when he was so sick. His general attitude is improved. More active and scratching,licking much less. He & BabyKitty are both on my desk now, I guess they just want to be sure I tell you thanks!

Warm Smiles,
onebabykitty

Hi GM!

Wanted to let you know that Sunshine continues to be much more animated. He even runs a little bit now and is attempting to learn how to play with BabyKitty. It makes my heart smile to see the little guy coming alive!
His eyes have not had a watery discharge the last 3 days. He is having some bowel movements about every 2 days, each time with 3-4 good size sections. This is a wonderful improvement.
We both thank you, Gm for your care.

Warm Smiles,
onebabykitty

Hi GM;

Sunshine has been doing so well until yesterday evening I noticed he was beginning to act agitated and shying away from me. He wasn't very interested in eating and didn't snuggle up to me in bed last night. Today he just stayed upstairs until about 7:00 p.m. when I got him to come down to go outdoors. I did notice that he had a bowel movement in the litter box but no urine output. When I had him outside he squatted several times with no results. He is sitting under my desk now all curled up. He doesn't want me to touch him. He feels slightly warm but I don't think he has a temp.
I don't know if this is just the remedy working or if it is something I need to be concened with. I know from his vet history he had urinary problems before but I wasn't around him and don't know how he acted.
He had been getting a rough time from 2 of the other cats the last couple of days so I don't know if the stress from that has anything to do with this or not.
I would really appreciate you letting me know what you think and if there is anything I need to do for him. ( other than getting him out of the house, away from the other 2 cats which I am not able to do now...hopefully, soon!)
Thank you GM.

Warm Smiles,
onebabykitty

have you given him potash free diet??? If, this is a reocurrence of his urinary problem, and it will pass after 48 houers, just give him lots of water to drink, less food. and no milk, except souer milk.
