onebabykitty,
don't worry about cluttering up the page with useless info, just about anything you can think of will help the homeopaths here in pointing them to the right direction. Obviously post the problem, when it started what makes it worse, better. does kitty like warmth or cold? sleep habits, eating habits, temperment. Physical description of kitty nd vaccination history. Good luck, Barb |

BabyKitty is a 4 year old neutered male Smoke Persian with gold eyes. Weighs apx. 10-12 lbs. He is terribly afraid of thunder, sirens, most any loud or shrill noise. He is afraid of ceiling fans and very skittish and nervous around other people and animals. I'm not certain when this started as we lived in western Oklahoma until 5 months ago and there weren't many thunderstorms. He also wasn't around other people much since it was just the two of us for most of his life. He hates having his ears cleaned and will not tolerate drops or any liquids actually put in his ears. He will allow me to clean the outer ear with a Q-tip. He has had chronic dirty, itchy ears for about 2 years. This started after his last vaccination in '97. He became quite ill with an oozy infection in his Right eye and violent itching around his neck and ears. The vet kept treating him for ear mites but said he couldn't find any. He gave him antibiotics which did not help the ears but cleared up the eye. I took him to another vet since he was getting worse and scratching all his hair out around his neck and ears. That vet said it was an allergy but he didn't know to what. He found no mites, parasites or bacteria, just lots of dirty wax. He gave him one shot of cortisone to stop the itch until a better solution was found.That is when I got all his vet records together and realized that he had become ill every year after his vaccinations. I am in the process of moving right now and all of his records are in storage so I can't tell you exactly what all he has had but I know in July/August of '96 he had all the feline vaccinations that are typically given and he was very lethargic for a day or two after that. Shortly after that he had urinary problems that was treated with antibiotics. In October '97 he had rabies and one other vaccine, I believe. I found the kitty at the dumpster in July'96 and he had ear mites and dirty fur and was hungry. The vet estimated he was between 8-12 weeks when he saw him about 3 weeks after I found him. I later found out he had belonged to a neighbor who had put him outside when her boyfriend came over because the kitten got on his nerves. She told me he was registered and was the runt of his litter. She had gotten another one and didn't want this one back. I realize now that it is possible that he got double vaccinations when he was a kitten. He has had no vaccinations since '97 and no prescription drugs. I changed his food from Eukanuba to Wysong in '97. He had eaten Iams Kitten his first year before the Eukanuba. I started adding raw chicken, apx. 1/4-1/2 breast per day, to his food in '98. I now feed him PetGuard canned with some Wysong and am working toward an all raw diet. He hates having his belly, tail and anal area touched or messed with. He will tolerate having his claws trimmed but throws a fit when I get to the middle claws on each paw. He doesn't mind being bathed (well, too much) and he doesn't mind travelling in the car, rather enjoys it sometimes. He likes to go outside and I take him out at least every evening for 30min-1hour or so. He likes for me to carry him around but does not like for other people to hold or pet him. He likes warmth. He likes to be petted when he eats. He has a good appetite and eats a small breakfast about 7a then eats apx 10a and again around 7-9p. He goes to sleep around 10p in his chair and comes to sleep with me on the bed around 3-4a. He sleeps most of the afternoon until about 5p when I get off work. The last 1 1/2 years have been pretty difficult for him I think. In summer of '98 I took in a calico persian whose owners were going to euthanize because they were tired of her. This cat was ssoooo mean! I tried flower remedies and various therapies with her plus lots of love but she was mean to BabyKitty when she first came to live with us. She later tamed down alot but he was and is still scared to play. He used to play alot before she came. I kept her a little over a year and she was much improved but I did have to give her up. I feel so badly that it changed BabyKitty so much. A few months after she left, we moved to Knoxville,Tn and are staying with friends until I can find us a place. They have a 9 mo. old boy and 2 cats. He has gotten used to their cats and they get along okay. I took another cat 4 mo. ago that his owner was going to euthanize because they had just redecorated and didn't want the cat in the house. He is a Himilayan and instantly bonded with BabyKitty. They get along fine as they have the same temeprament. BabyKitty is a very gentle, quiet, sweet, calm, sensitive cat that is somewhat aloof. He becomes skittish, timid and easily frightened around other people and animals.He does not play much anymore, hardly ever, and gets a discharge from his Right eye from time to time and gets sneezes, I think this has something to do with cold air but am not certain. He constantly has dirty ears with alot of dark gummy stuff. He scratches at his ears and his Right ear seems to be worse. He likes for me to scratch his throat under his Right ear when it is bothering him. He also will cry at times when I pick him up, it seems to be something about his chest area.
If anyone has any help to offer I would be very grateful. If you need any more specific information that I can supply please just let me know. Thank you for bearing with me. Almost forgot, I am concerned because the skin/tissue in his Right ear canal & cartalidge has turned very dark gray, almost black. He also lost hair this spring due to matting and the skin below the matts turned dark gray. He was frightened and stayed under the bed before & after our move to TN. and I could not groom him. Hair is growing back very well. [This message has been edited by onebabykitty (edited 25 August 2000).] [This message has been edited by onebabykitty (edited 25 August 2000).] |

Hi,
Was pretty sure when I read your post that GM would recommend what he did! You may want to refer to a post by me titled "ERNIE" to see how similar that case is to yours and the results of using Arnica. I would never have considered it but follow GM's suggestions absolutely (!) and am certainly glad I have. After reading more in the MM's about Arnica, I understood his reasoning. Wishing you good results, too. |

GM thank you so much for responding. I will order this tonight.
I am so deeply grateful to you for taking the time to help. This problem has been a source of great distress to me for a long time. I knew there must be help but I didn't know where to find it until I found this board. Again, thank you. Warmly, onebabykitty
quote:
Originally posted by GM: arnika 200 one dose. once.

|

Hi GM, gpm and Barb;
Just to let you know that I gave BabyKitty his arnika today at noon. I will keep you guys posted as to how he is doing. So far he is a pretty content feline. He does seem to be more aware of smells this evening and more alert to his surroundings with focus on small things, like a spot on the wall. He continues to be very watchful of the door. Thank you all for being here. Warm Smiles, onebabykitty |

Hi guys,
I bathed BabyKitty today and cleaned his outer ears. He was more tolerant of his bath and blow drying than he has been in quite a while. His ears have much less production of dirty, waxy stuff. The R inner ear & cartlidge is still dark gray. I only clean the outer part of ear with a Q-tip but when I was getting close to the inner ear he would turn his head sideways & downward as if he was wanting to have the inner ear scratched. I say that because that is how he does when he wants me to scratch/rub under his ears on the outside when his ears are bothering him. He is still very skittish around loud (especially shrill) noises & sudden movement. He did want me to pick him up the other day & sat in my lap for quite a long time, 15-20 min. I have not noticed any unusual behavior since the first night. He still watches the door most all night, I think maybe more than usual. Seems to be doing great! Thank you... Warm Smiles, onebabykitty |
