Following is a account of Ernie who has been treated in the past by a fool who did not know how to use homeopathics....still doesn't...but at least now knows enough to ask at the right place........

White, Long hair, Angora type, 11 year old, neutered male cat with pus from ears if use aloe/peroxide flush, which I have stopped doing and have been using cold pressed virgin olive oil last 4-5 days to clean in and out of ears. Excessive black wax discharge which is now reduced due to cleaning with the oil, I guess. Q-tips now have yellowish, thick substance mixed with a tinge of blood on them Skin eruptions under chin and lower spine. Greasy looking, brownish discoloration of hair at base of and half way down tail, with bran like brownish flakes when combed in that area only. Very anxious and irritated acting. Ears flattened, head held down. Quick, restless movements. Angry if clean ears. Eating and drinking OK. Probably wants comfort (he usually likes to be held for a short time but a very intense cat always) but is fearful I am going to "do" something to his ears.

History: Abandoned by owner at about 1 year old and mourned her for about 2 years.

2/93 Combination Luk/rabies/distemper shots

4/96 cystitis….this episode, like all that follow, were treated homeopathically but very poorly,
terribly over medicated each and every time. If need to know everything used will be
happy to supply that……

7/96 Symptoms like distemper, dirty mouth, congestion, mouth breathing, no eating or drinking
sneezing/coughing

12/97 Rodent ulcer looking eruption (not bleeding)on upper lip then 2 weeks later skin eruptions, back "humped" look, greasy/dirty tail and lower back, dirty looking chin, very agitated, did not want
ears or tail area touched, offensive odor, hair loss down tail, back, hips and both front and
back legs, but less in front, skin rash

2/98 "Rodent Ulcer" began to bleed

3/98 Sulph 10M 1 pellet, once……..Much bloody tissue cast off upper lip (Rodent Ulcer)

9/98 Improvement from 3/98 till now but still slight discoloration on tail/back, lip healed
more contented… Sulph 10M …… one pellet, once

1/99 cystitis with some blood…….Acon, Canth

2/99 much happier kitty but black wax in ears and left ear some pus, hair loss continues
(not shedding, just gone bare) lower back and tail, no skin eruption

4/99 Greasy/ brown discoloration tail/back again and return of bran-like flakes, ears black
wax and pus again (still?) with red area between eyes and ears….. 3 doses
Sulph 10M in water potency over a weeks time……good response, much improved
physically and mentally

8/99 Ears remain infected with brownish eye discharge inner canthi, anxious again, skin OK
one dose Sulp 10M in water potency……10 days later losing weight, very anxious
gave Thuja LM ….4 times over 2 week period

All conditions except ears improved and has seemed very well, happy, relaxed for him, affectionate…. All winter and through spring until mid-June and current condition is as stated in the first part of post.

A lot of my cats have similar ear infection problems...can't ever seem to cure any of them.

Sorry such a long post. If any suggestions how this poor guy (and maybe the others) can be helped after all the junk that's been done to him (by me), he would be most grateful....me, too. Thank you.

Lightbulb

Hi GM,
We were having a lightening storm when I thanked you for your advice and wanted to shut down pretty quickly.......but would like to ask, now that the storm is past.....if you fell Arn would be helpful for the other cats ear problems, too. I have tried so many remedies over a long time and nothing has worked. Truely never considered Arn but it makes such good sense and would like to try it on the others. None have had any remedies for quite sometime. I know you treat individually but since there are so many with such a similar condition I thought I might give it a go if you approve. The ear infections in my "herd" of cats is the most continuously troublesome condition and causes me great concern. Do you think it would be OK to go with Arn for the gang? Thanks again, GM.

Question

GM, Do I use "angry and doesn't want to be touched" if that only applies to their ears and they still like to be touched otherwise? It is pretty normal for a cat to object to their ears being cleaned.

Ernie has had neither Arn or Puls before. He is angry about the ears but does very much like to be pet. I have used Puls on other cats for ear infections without much success. Probably did not use the right potency. What potency of either remedy do you suggest?

Thank you again.....and again.......and again.........

Question

Hi GM,
Three days since Ernie had his 200C arnica. The next day, he started acting really "nuts". Racing about, diving under things, twitching all over, snapping at imaginary flies, growling, making very odd "huuummmm" noise with each bit of food, but stopping when food in mouth, eating/drinking ferociously but would not do either unless dish put in front of him, outer/inner ears and mouth reddened, ears hot to touch, wild-eyed look mixed with confusion and discomfort.

Have him in very quiet, darkened, secluded place now....which helped, I think. Put a few drops of Chamomile herbal extract (homemade, so may not be as effective as commercial product) in his water which he drinks with "violent" energy...the same way he is eating....as if he's never been fed or had water before! Do not know if the Chamomile or the seclusion has helped but he has settled somewhat since being in the "safe" place. He purrs if stroked, likes to be combed but will not hold still, in constant nervous motion when I am in his room. He is apparently quieter when alone and is not objecting to being kept separate. A very stressed out cat. His actions were so peculiar that I think someone might consider him rabid acting. Did the Arn bring out symptoms from having had rabies inoculations years ago? He has, in the past, exhibited some of this type of behavior but not to this extreme.

Should I stop the use of the extract? Just wait this out? Have used the olive oil once per day in and on ears but he still is very protective of being touched there. Any suggestions what, if anything, to do? Thanks.

GM, Forgot to mention that there is fluid in the left ear and could be in the right also but not as noticeable. He holds his head down and sleeps in sternal position, not relaxed on his side. At tail base, along the lower spine and partly down tail, when combed, gives off hard, small, bloody crusts and leaves skin with bumpy, bloody rash. He looks anguished.
