Default FeLV

I had 2 positives this week. One we are double checking with a lab as she was not at all a candidate for it (we had her for 6 months, no sign of illness ever). The 2nd just lost all her kittens within the 1st week of being born and herself is not well (upper resp symptoms). Does anyone have any experiences to share regarding treatment?

Hey Krista,

Had completely forgotten but one of the first times I ever used homeopathy was for FeLV. Years ago, back when everything was so simple. A couple of *animal* homeopathy books, my old Boericke and Kent, pencil and paper and a small drawer of remedies, absolutely no thought of any possible damage....oh man, those were the days! Knew nothing at all and saw wonderful things happen from what I now consider really stupid use of homeopathy. Now, a room dedicated to a pharmacy with two software programs and I'm paralyzed with fear... what to use, what it will do ultimately, can't for the life of me figure out how the heck anyone knows what remedy to choose and very seldom have the nifty results seen back then. Boy, do I long for those good old days of blissful ignorance! Once even cured a rescue who vet said was pemphigus erythematosus (his own cat had it and he euthanized her saying it was untreatable) which I wouldn't trust myself to touch with a ten foot pole today!

Anyway, the case was young male, maybe 2-3 years old belonging to a friend. Failing health led to blood test that led to the diagnosis. I would have to call her to get more specifics than that but doubt she ever really kept any records. Can't remember but doubt any tumor had developed.

Brilliant prescriber that I am, I advised her straight out of Pitcairn's (his first edition) book. She did separate him from her very large cat population. He grew very strong, remained that way, remember her saying he looked healthier than all the rest of her cats. He lived for many years (10 at least, I'm sure) after the original vet diagnosis and his suggestion to euthanize.

Pitcairn's suggestions (which is what she did) included:

large doses vit c (sodium ascorbate powder, which is what friend used) or Emergen-C made by Alacer Corp with potassium and other minerals) 3-5 grams per day, divided doses

foods high in calcium (or liquid calcium supplement) 400mgs daily

tissue salts....
nat m 6x, one tab 3x/da (particularly if weak with severe anemia and dehydration)
calc phos 6x, one tab 2x/da.....before nat m in morning and after nat m in evening

Hydrastis canadensis, he suggested the herbal tincture but sure I sent her the homeopathic remedy but can't remember what potency but was probably low.

She combined this with a natural diet (though honestly, I'd not much trust that she did this for very long). She probably had the cat on the tissue salts for 4-6 months and the hydrastis in potency probably daily for about a month.

I know the FeLV (from tumor) nosode is used in conjunction with phos with lymphosarcoma tumor of the liver. And that with multiple lymph involvement, calc fl or sil are used with the nosode. This sounds like an early approach similar to Dr. Ramakrishnan's protocol.

I've not bothered testing specifically for FeLV for years and years. And have had no positives come up when blood tests taken for those who visit vet for dis-ease, so I'm sure no authority.

For interest sake, not that it's right, I used hydras in 200C according to Ramakrishnan ( 3 pellets, plussed, 10 doses per day x 7 days then next 7 days with the nosode, carc, same method) for about 15 months on one of my cancer (not FeLV) cats with no adverse reactions which really surprised the living daylights out of me! This kitty is now on monthly split doses....didn't die yet and he was an elderly, feeble cat to start. Say this only because of natural concern regarding mega dosing. Maybe cancer cases must...? I don't know.

Good luck, kiddo.

Thanks gpm, I was thinking along simuliar lines in regards to remedy choices. Also thinking about starting CoQ10, not sure about vit C (conflicting reports of late). I'm going to try to get a regiment together towards the end of the week. I'm also dealing with a possible cancer case of another cat (poor Myra -never been well, now it looks as if she may have a tumour, pushing on her small intestine -I have put her on lyc Lm1 and she appears to be improving, paws crossed as Anna would say -where they heck has she been lately anyways???)

I think she's been up to no good and having a blast doing it!

Lots of conflicts re vit c, etc. Used to be difficult to believe FeLV test results, if mounting an immunity or actual infection. Maybe things are different now but I remember re-testing and the positive would then be negative.

How are you dosing Myra with LM/Q? Daily or for a period of days off and on? Or as needed? The cancer cat I mentioned on Hydras (originally on Aloe) and Carc was also on sporadic doses of Lyc LM/Q for bouts of constipation or slow/frequent urination. One dose would bring such good results that I was tempted to stop the Dr. R protocol and use just Lyc.

She is on lyc also for constipation, build up of gas she can not get rid of. She is in intestinal turmoil (sp?). I am giving her 7 daily doses as Hans very often suggests. The mass was found in the region of the sm intestine but they couldn't really tell where it was exactly. I had been thinking of lyc when I also saw lyc as indication for stomach cancer.
As for the FeLV positives, we are retesting in 3 months. The one is a little unbelievable so we have gone ahead and sent her blood to a proper lab for analysis, they will check her bone marrow for a positive diagnosis. I also don't trust those snap kits.
