Default feline stomatitis

hello out there...my rescue 2 yr. old female cat was recently diagnosed with the beginning stages of stomatitis. she has a fauscial lesion in the back of her mouth. the vet said bottom line is total teeth removal - this can be put off for a whlle wtih standard things like cortisone, etc. she also said it may not get worse than it is, but medically speaking, that is not likely. is there anyone who has had practical experience with this disease? mostly i read that because her immune system is so compromised, there are no other possibilities. thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
