More on Constitutional prescribing ------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Shannon,believe me i ask the same question- what i notice; Not all homeopaths use constitutional remedies in their casetaking process.(nor do they do a full casetaking) I find this puzzling as its been part of the chronic complex case analysis- a classical homeopath needs to use to untangle miasmatic predispositions. There is much to learn regards the learning curve of "Constitutions" as we see by this comment: Murthy said:"as constitution is not a disease".......................................... ..........................Yes Of Course Its NOT A DISEASE! Who told you that?

.(§6, 91, 92 & 175). In this study Hahnemann included changes in the innate constitution and personality as well as the negative states brought on by the disease.
The term, "diathesis", is used to denote an inherited or acquired constitutional predisposition toward certain chronic disease states.(constitution is not a DISEASE) These are Greek classical methods which offer much insight into the nature of the innate constitution and temperaments as well as possible disease propensities. Hahnemann's Materia Medica Pura is the first homoeopathic work to give a full constitutional picture in a medical work more on this subject; Constitutional Simillimum http://www.hpathy.com/homeopathyforu...pages_icon.gif 1 2 3 4 5 interesting discussion from the Homeopathy = Hpathy, Homeopathic Medicines Homeopathy Remedies, Treatments & More! forum

I don't rate this book much. It has more to do with psychology than homeopathy and the personality profiles are misleading in many instances. There are personality types where Bailey has very limited experience of the remedy but has cobbled together a 'typical personality' from the one or two cases within his experience. He says as much himself.
Catherine Coulter's work is vastly superior. In the introduction she emphasises that personality type should not be used as a basis for remedy selection and underlines the importance of confirming the medicine with reliable physical particular symptoms. In my opinion, personality type is best used as a single general symptom. It can be a useful clue to the medicine or it can act as a satisfactory confirmation. A prescription based on personality type alone is not very different to a prescription based on disease name alone. On constitutional medicines: Why does a person (or animal) in vibrant health need a medicine? On congenital disease: There is still a deviation from the normal healthy state. It is the symptoms that depict this that need to be removed, and therefore form the basis for the selection of the medicine. Regards Sim

An Added suggestion;
George Vithoulkas- Materia Medica "Viva" volumes 1-11 (he has not finished the entire alphabet)a-h........... Is superb for remedy typology!!!!!!!! Often compares one remedy to others that are similar. a qUOTE from GV;" in remedies we must try to see patterns rather than symptoms but be aware to see the real ones and not the imagined ones. Once you understand the pattern in your remedy you may reconise it much more easily in the patient.'....................
