Default more on Split Dose? Was repeated high potencies

Chris posted this before

Hello,

As a student of David Little I've always understood that when David uses the
term "split doses" he is speaking in the same context as Hahnemann's use of
the term "divided doses". In David's previous posts to this List he has used
"split" and "divided" interchangeably. That is, one dry pillule is dissolved
in a bottle with 7 to 20 tablespoons of solution and the medicine is thus
split/divided from the original medicating pillule into several doses, and
repeated as needed.

The purpose of using a divided/split dose in solution is so that the
medicine can be more easily tolerated in repetitions. This is especially
relevant for ongoing treatment of slowly progressing chronic treatment in
sensitive patients, and in hypersensitive patients prone to over-reactions.

Hahnemann first described the method of *dividing the dose in solution* in
the Preface to Bönninghausen's Repertory of Antipsoric Medicines, 1833. It
is again described in the 5th edition Organon as a note to Aphorism 288. And
once again in the Preface to the third part of the second edition of his
work on Chronic Diseases, published in 1837:
"Experience has shown me, as it has no doubt also shown to the best of my
followers, that it is most useful in diseases of any magnitude (not
excepting even the most acute, and still more so in the half-acute, in the
tedious and most tedious) to give to the patient the powerful homoeopathic
pellet or pellets only in solution, and this solution in *divided doses*. In
this way we give the medicine, dissolved in seven to twenty tablespoonfuls
of water without any addition, in acute and very acute diseases every six,
four or two hours; where the danger is urgent, even every hour or every
half-hour, a tablespoonful at a time; with weak persons or children, only a
small part of a tablespoonful (one or two teaspoonfuls or coffeespoonfuls)
may be given as a dose."

In the 6th edition Organon, we are again directed to dissolve one, or rarely
more pillules of the dynamized medicine into a bottle containing a measured
solution. The change from the previous edition is that the remedy bottle is
now succussed each time before administration of the new dose.

Chris
