and is out of work (as a yoga teacher) because of it. My brother-in-law just missed a trimester of teaching because of similar problem. I am wondering whether folks on the list have treated that "diagnosis" with good success. I'm not sure I can persuade either friend or brother-in-law to try homeopathy, but armed with some information about treatment success, I might be able to. Teresa (Northern VA, USA) |

Hi Teresa,
I have a 'bad' back and have treated my slipped disks and pinched nerves for decades with homeopathy. Sometimes the successes are spectacular (sometimes not.) The challenge with these injuries is that the muscles surrounding the area where the nerve is pinched tense up in order to prevent further pain/injury. The net effect is that the subluxation is maintained or worsened. So the first challenge is to relax these muscles. The next is to keep the weight off _for as long as it takes_ to heal the injury. I have learned to drop everything at the first sign of pain and lie down on a flat, hard surface until the muscles relax enough to realign the vertebrae. I choose the medicines based on the location of the injury and my miasmatic picture. Asa Hersoff (I have no doubt misspelled this) has a book on Healing Musculoskeletal Injuries. I have found NUCCA chiropractic to be the best at treating back and
especially whiplash related injuries. Check out NUCCA.org. I've had herniated discs C3-5 since an auto accident which will occasionally
'flare-up' (inflame) causing radiating nerve pain, burning pain, sciatica, you name it! The last time I had a flare-up (after some way too vigorous gardening, believe it or not), I took a dose of Arnica 200 and it worked like magic. But, it only makes sense, really...after all, the damage was originally caused by an accident, right? I don't know what caused your friends injury, but if it was an accident (doing yoga too "vigorously"? ), it's possible Arnica could help... Good luck to you, Teresa!
