I'm mostly just watching what is going on here, but now some help would be highly appreciated: My older son's cat - a male - was lost for some months, and he is now back but in a very bad condition. He told me, that the cat was very limp, could not stand, wouldn't eat or drink. He took him to the vet, and he told him the cat has a kidney problem (my son just didn't remembered exactly what was said then). The vet gave the cat a vitamin shot and sent him home. It was 2 days ago. I told him to try giving the cat some raw meat, liver, or heart, what he did, and called me back, that the cat is eating some of it. Today I was out of town, but now he called me, in a desperate voice, that the cat was in such a bad condition, that he took him back to the vet, and the vet wanted to send him to sleep. The cat has a kidney problem - that is all I know now, and is not eating, drinkint or moving. He is just lyeing and - still - breathing. What remedy should we try? One thing: yesterday the cat was eating some meat on its own, and urinating in inappropriate places, for eg. under himself and sitting there. And sometimes he went to my son and meowed loudly. Please send my some suggestion. The only thing I could came up is Lyc. Is it OK, or there is a better remedy? |

So so sorry to hear this. I would suggest no remedies unless you can get to, or speak to a homeopathic Vet. Animals cannot tell us how they feel or about any reaction they experience. Bach Rescue Remedy behind the ears may help a little ..It sounds as if the poor little chap might be in a lot of pain. If he has been starved...care with diet needed if he recovers. If you don't know where he has been may have been kicked or injured..but assume Vet checked for that.
If there is kidney damage / breakdown associated pain is probably the worse that can be experienced....which is possibly why the Vet wanted to 'send him to sleep'. Please don't dabble with remedies unless you have clear diagnosis from Vet. You may need to let him go...but cats can have amazing powers of recovery! Hope so! Some Vets use Acupuncture (with or without homeopathy..)..that could help. Interestingly I had a (human female!) case where Lycopodium cleared a bladder/kidney infection very rapidly. You maybe on the right track...but please be guided by your Vet. You may be aware that in UK it is illegal for 'human' homeopaths to treat animals other than their own. Good luck...I do hope he will be OK for you S |

You do not have much time and if you feel Lyc is the right remedy give it but not too high potency. Often Canth is used for that as well in particular if there is burning pain but again difficult with animals. Are there blood in the urine?

Monika,
It sounds like the cat may be in kidney failure. It may be acute or chronic, and that makes a big difference as far as prognosis. IV fluid therapy is crucial and I would suggest the remedy chininum arsenicosum for initial use to try to get the cat through the crisis. After he has improved another remedy may be needed but for starters that would be an excellent choice. There is also a supplement made by standard process called feline renal support that would be of help as well. Good luck to the kitty! James E. Dr. Schacht,
Could you say a bit about why the remedy comes to mind? Reading briefly, I see that it's strongly connected with weakness and prostration; but why else does it come to your mind for this case? Shannon,
As you stated, it is a great remedy for weakness and prostration, especially with heavy loss of fluid, which is what happens in kidney failure. Often times people mistakenly think that the kidneys shut down and produce no urine when there is kidney failure, but this is only true in acute renal failure. Chronic renal failure is far and away more common in cats and the kidneys produce copious, dilute urine, resulting in dehydration and debility. If I have a known constitutional remedy I will use that in renal failure, but often times the cats come in for the first time with kidney failure and ch. ars has proven to be a great remedy to improve the condition of these poor cats.
