Default Phosphorus in TB/P. Banerji

An excerpt from P. Banerji's Volume 1 of 3 so far, of his Advanced
Materia Medica.

Avoidance of certain drug

There are some drugs which are not suitable in certain diseases. The
results of a drug has to be judged by a wise mind. The observation may
reveal the actions of a drug.

Phosphorus, a drug though very much indicated, should not be liberally used
in Pulmonary Tuberculosis. It has been seen in several cases where profuse
haemoptysis occurred on the 7th and 13th day after taking Phosphorus 1000.
In three of these cases the doses have been taken by the patient themselves
by studying the books. All these three cases died of the haemorrhages which
could not be controlled. While describing such a case Dr. Pareshnath
Banerji mentioned---When1 reached the house 1 found the blood flowing up to
the threshold and to the drain of the room which has already killed the
patient. It was 13th day after the dose of Phosphorus 1000. Alas! nobody
could understand. the cause of this haemorrhage. No post mortem clue left
for this murder".

Less occurrences can happen after the use of Phosphorus 200 in Pulmonary
Tuberculosis and it has always safe to use it in the 6th centesimal
potency. The percentage of above mentioned haemorrhagic reactions was very
low and also needed special eye for it to see them. Even then the reaction
being a fatal and unneutralisable and uncontrollable, let us warn not to be
the murderer even for one case., if you have a sense of feeling that every
one is your own, and you know the alternative.

These eyewitness accounts cannot be called the myth! These clinical
accounts that should not be overlooked. There are advanced cases where the
lungs are full of cavitations and cheezations making hemorrhages a danger.
Such cases should be treated in layers and high potencies of deep acting
antipsoric remedies avoided. It is often best to start out with apsoric
plant remedies to remove the hectic fevers, coughs, reduce tubercles and
restore the function of lungs before using deeper remedies if necessary to
complete the cure.
