Default pulsatilla pratensis / nigricans

dear colleagues at homeolist,

does anyone have any experience about the difference between pulsatilla pratensis and pulsatilla nigricans?

I think the common puls. that we use is puls. prat. However, may pharmacies just mention "pulsatilla".

I tried to check many books on this but could not find much information. clarke's book does talk about puls. prat. and puls. nig. but does not give enough information to be able to differentiate between their provings.

are they exactly the same?

interestingly, respected prof. george vithoulkas mentions puls. as puls. nigricans in his "talks on classical homeopathy" (published by b.jain).

any input on this will be much appreciated.

with regards and best wishes,
dr manish agarwala

Pulsatilla nigricans and anemone pratensis (pulsatilla pratensis) are the same plant but we do also use the american pasque flower which is Pulsatilla nuttaliana. Hope that helps.

best wishes, Joy

dear joy lucas,

thanks for your post on puls. prat and puls. nig. stating that they are the same.

I shall try to read puls. nutalliana and understand it's DD as compared to puls. prat.

you may, if possible, offer your insights, on this topic.

with warm regards,

dr manish agarwala

Dear Manish, I don't think I've ever prescribe Pulsatilla nuttaliana
but as I understand the rx it is much more acrid and caustic than the
other Pulsatilla. It is allegedly a prophylactic against measles but
you would think that Pulsatilla would be also. Key sx come in the form
of irritability from any kind of noise, don't like being spoken to or
being disturbed (hence the caustic nature?).

An organ by organ comparison would make a worthy study. best wishes, Joy
