I think I mentioned that all these are bits and pieces of things I am going to put on my hopepage - still under construction;-( While I work on them I might as well post them.

While I think that the information on dosing as given is quite interesting, I do agree that as given it is not the best of info. I will fleshen out that case later on - it is quite a bit of translating/typing involved in that - the reason why I am postponing it. I will also later on give bare data on dosing again, horizontally through the casebook with random selection,

Right now I think that the case below, small because the patient only came three times, is interesting for anecdotal reasons. The anecdote should be quite correct, since I read it in the book on Hahnemann by Prof. Juette.

The patient was a very, very famous person - Paganini, who was probably the most famous violin virtuoso ever, world-famous in his day and even now.

He came to Hahnemann as a patient and fell in love with Melanie. He told her so and she seems to have responded in a very nasty manner - his detailed answering letter is printed in the book.

Anyway - he never returned after that.

So here is the case - with a challenge to those who do not know: what's the third prescription?

12th July

The nerves and the power of imagination were much overstrained - at the age of 14 and 16 years susceptible - often coughed - before and later he has overstrained himself and since 12 years onward he started to cough / after that leeches to the anus, that took away his cough for one month - from that time on it has stayed.

Then several times one set vey many leeches at the side of the liver, after that 5 months rubbing into the skin of mercury-containing substances, which ruined his teeth, which are corrupted - a long term salivation - and it DAMAGED THE EYES. a diet of milk for 3 months, from which he gained a lot of weight. bUT THE BETTER HE FELT THE MORE HE HAD TO COUGH. When he has a small and often repeated cough he does not have strong attacks. 10 years ago he wrecked himself with women, not so much from intercourse but through the looking at women, this kept him in erection all day. After the milk diet he was bled 4 times. For 6 years the urethra got narrower, for every urination he has to catheterize himself - -the catheter is thick (paralysis of the bladder ans spasm of the neck of the bladder) Stools are generally every day and several times in small quantities. He sleeps until 4.30, then he has to urinate. In the mornings, after stool he has to lay down again, because of the head. Cough? Every attempt to read and even to talk forces him to go to stool or to urinate, and also tires his head. He has had for some years stabbing pains in the thighs and the legs, in the flesh. Against the pains and especially against the tenesmus he has taken for 1 1/2 years le Roy, almost every day.

But even 8 years ago he had taken of this now and then. Le Roy has taken away from him any power to urinate volutarily, has weakened him as well as increased the tenesmes, that and the losses of blood. At present more blood comes out of his anus, 3,4 days without interruption, up to 4 tablespoons at the same time right now. This remains generally unimpeded for 14 days.

After breakfast he notices sleepiness, has to lie down and sleep for 2 hours. When he sits up he is forced to go to stool. He always has little stool, almost never diarrhea. Especially in the mornings he feels incapable of work. When he wants to practice he has to go to stool suddenly, even without success, 8, 10 times or go to pee 8, 10 times. Walking before as well as after breakfast, he either has to go to stool or urinate with the catheter. Sleeps during the day from 11, 12 o'clock to 1,2 o'clock. To ameliorate the tenesmes he has to draw out the urine. Because of this complaint he does not feel llike talking, nor to look at anything, not even to read the papers. Eats at 5 o'clock, by his eagerness to play the violin and by his irritation of the genitals he got a cough / Far-sighted, he wears very strong glasses. Every 3 days this cough, which takes away his breath, 8, 9 years ago, by some odour or even some dream while sleeping, and when he feels best and has more strength. He wishes, to keep the small cough, because it saves him from big attacks. When he gets a catarrhal cold he cannot go to sleep without getting out of breath, shall [supposedly cannot???] now not make any movements, without getting out of breath. No coffee, no tea, wine with 5 parts of water,

Sulphur, 1 pellet C 30, of a mixture 1000 drops and of that 1 drop in 30 tablespoons of water, shake 10 times and of this take 1,2,3,4 coffeespoons every evening.

July 19

Took the first coffeespoon on the 14th in the evening, yesterday evening (on the 18th) the 5th tablespoon

On he 15th a little more urine, stool also more. Breathing a little freer as far as stomach is concerned. On the 16th his state was not good, because he has dined out.

On the 17th not good at all.

On the 18th, 6,7 stools in the morning, but without blood, and after that great weakness and sleepiness, head heavy, nose redder, with a pimple on its tip, painful when blowing. In the evening no sleepiness (he had had already on the 12th the itching in his nose, which lasted to the 17th) In the morning he slept from 10 - 12 o'clock.

This morning no stool, 5,6 times tenesmus. He has, so to speak, slept rather well, only urinated 2,3 times during the night. He had a cough as usual, slight, no strong attacks. Mornings and evenings cough stronger. During the tenesmes some urine comes out if the bladder is quite full. He had these days still stabbing pains in his thighs, legs, feet. EVERY MONTH THERE ARE 4, 5 DAYS ON WHICH BLOOK COMES OUT WITH THE STOOL - these days no blood. To-day more strength than yesterday, he often hawks [?]. scracchia. Shall observe whether he has more need to urinate on some day. When he rises from an easy chair, he sometimes has vertigo. On the 18th he was irritated. He has no bad taste in his mouth. -Appetite good.

Shall to-day take twice one coffeespoon an the 20th 3, the following days 3 coffeespoons

July 25. =

20. - 4 stools, slept badly, dreams - head a little affected - no cough. The night - tenesmes without stool - stab in the joint of the thighs - but not in the evening.=

21. slept well. in the moring tenesmus and little pain - 4 stools - the first always stronger - a little formed - head a little freer - at 4 o`clock weakness of body, coldness and sleep - 2 hours - ne hour after eating heat and a little transpiration, and then comes again the cough, which also comes on because of the cold or the heat - no suffocating attack from coughing -

22. = 4 stools - tenesmus - sleep after breakfast, 2 hours - no appetite while eating - stabs in the thighs - better in the evening - a little more cough -

23. = restless during the night - bad dreams - 4 stools with colics left, great weakness, sleep = no appetite. During walk stomach pain. Pressure (also on the lift side of the abdomen) Loveday has given him 2 pellets of Ipec. - has not caused anything -

24. had during tenesmus no pain in the stomach and in the left side - tenesmus without stool - sharp stab, but permanent in right thigh - he says there are flying ones in his body = it was a little better in the evening - often cough - when he feels weak the cough is also weaker, slept well without urinating -

when vertigo he loses sight, sees everything white (cann. ?)

vertigo when eating: mur., mag., NUX. V., arn.

when starting to eat, cough: Cocc., (Puls)

A whiff of cigarette smoke or odour of flowers causes cough: Vanishing of sight: Cic., Hyos., Stram.;

during the day sometimes some urine comes out (5, 6 droops at the same time), urine involuntary when enough is in the bladder, fullness of bladder, he can let some urine run out, without fullnes never. For the last 5, 6 days. Urging to stool in vain: Canth, Caps., Chin., Coloc., Cop., dig., Hell., nux. v., petros, sass, sep., Verat.,

This is very difficult work and I (of all persons) understand how hard this work is! It is even worse when one has to work from the microfiches of the original casebooks. I have been working on some large cases for years! At least DF5 is in print in French and German!

This is one of the largest dropper solution and dilution glasses I have ever seen! The normal size is around 400-500 drops with 1
drop put into 1 tablespoon or around 8-10 tablespoon of water with the
patient taking spoonful doses. I noted this prescription in my book. I pill in1000 drops and 1 drop into 30 tablespoon dilution glass (approx. 450 ml). I think this patient took 1, then 2, then 3 then 4 coffeespoons every evening. I believe by the fourth evening he is taking four coffeespoons. Talk about adjusting the dose individually!
