Default rubric help Autism

Does anyone in his/her homeopathic software have a rubric for "autism" or for the leading symptom of autism, being completely unrelated to the outside world? Withdrawn might be it - but I cannot find a rubric for that either.

Regards

Luise

I don't have my Bakshi's Ho. Repertory to hand but check there for his interpretations of DSM-type diagnoses.

You have to look at the UNCOMMON symptoms........What makes that child or adult unique within the diagnosis of autism. There is much to work with that are unique symptoms. Withdrawn/detached is a pretty common symptom. You will not get anywhere using the common symptoms, in my opinion

Dear Luise,

It's more involved than that. Those are the common symtoms of autistic children. Like all homeopathic treatment one needs to find the unique characteristics of the individual. But homeopathy can do wonders for these children.

Default Rubric Help

Dear Luise

My ISIS has come up with:

Complete, Head; AUTISM, mutinism, ham[1](5), hydr[1](5), kali-c[1](5), lyc[1](5), mur-ac[1](5), sabin[1](5), stann[1](5), sul-ac[1](1), tarent[1](5)

The noble gas end of Scholtens Periodic Table may be a good place to took for simillimum.

Graham

Default FW: rubric help

I sent this a long time ago and it did not arrive so have sent again. Sorry if there ends up being a double up!

However, it gives me an opportunity to say that all Luise asked is for information on rubrics - she was not asking how to treat Autism. We do not know why she was asking, and there could have been many reasons but it doesn't matter, as she had a specific query, which others may have been able to help her with.

I think some people are very quick to jump in telling others how to practice homoeopathy, when most of us know how, and do not need reminding every time a question is asked about rubrics especially those with a disease specifically mentioned . This comes over as a form of badgering IMO and is not necessary on a list of professionals.

---------------------------------------------

Luise
In Bakshi's Manual of Psychiatry, he suggests looking for rubrics under
these categories:

Abnormalities of communication - eg, Mind, answers questions first, repeats; loquacity; repeats; sppech babbling, broken, distorted, faltering tongue, mumbling, murmuring, slow; talk, repetition.....

Abnormalities of social development - eg., Mind, aversion, approached, family members, frinds, handled, mother, parents etc....... Mind, caress, agg, aversion to being; responsibility being late in children; smiling never, spoken to averse to being; expression stupid, indifference; Generalities stiffening out of body, touch from in children; touch agg; in children.....

Restriction of behaviour and interest - anger, concentration, crawling, expressing, fear, gestures, play.......................

The Tuberculinum patient is known for his inner discontentment, romantic and longing nature, and constant need for change and travel. The dress and style often exhibit a romantic and poetic sensitivity. However, though the romanticism is very appealing, it leads to a sense of ennui and boredom with the mundane routine of life. The patient is unable to explain the cause of this dissatisfaction at all and may feel that it is a normal part of life. Often this frustration is expressed in maliciousness, especially common in children. Adults often seek every possible outlet for excitement - dangerous sports, drugs, nightlife, etc. Frequent changes in the job, in relationships, in homes and the desire to travel are part of this same tendency.Another aspect of Tuberculinum to keep in mind is compulsive behavior and ritualism. The patient may return knocking at the office door 3 or 4 times after the interview has ended with some slight detail he wishes to impart. This reflects an inner compulsion which can also be expressed in ritualistic behavior.

Children
Tuberculinum is an important childhood remedy in simple recurring infectious illness of childhood such as otitis media and recurring bronchitis. It is also an important remedy in more advanced pathology such as failure to thrive, developmental defects, mental retardation and attention deficit disorders. In classic hyperactivity, Tuberculinum is a mainstay of practice. The child is unable to remain long in one place, is loud and very demanding and capricious. We especially think of Tuberculinum when the parents tell us that the child is coldly and deliberately destructive and malicious. He breaks his mother's favorite vase right in front of her if contradicted. The child may have great anger, even violence and tendency to strike others. He seems completely indifferent to punishment or reprimand. Tuberculinum is also one of our best remedies in mental retardation and even autism. In these cases, ritualistic behavior and head-banging are common expressions of the pathology.

Physical
Many patients who need Tuberculinum do not exhibit these psychological tendencies and must be diagnosed on the basis of previous tubercular history or family history and upon the keynotes or physical symptoms. Especially we think of Tuberculinum when there is strong allergic tendencies and respiratory disorders. Recurring, even unexplained fevers, connective tissue diseases and rheumatic conditions are also among the more common disorders found in tubercular cases.

Combined Symptoms
Respiratory troubles and rheumatism.

Default Re: rubric help HELI

A 10 year old girl with Downs syndrome, who is more disabled than is usually the case in these children. She is autistic and it is very difficult to make contact with her. She does make some sounds, but only her mother can understand some of these. When she sits she lets her head hang down and she rocks backwards and forwards. She prefers lying on the floor with her arms and legs stretched out. She likes pressing her head to the ground and to cold and hard surfaces. She crawls over chairs and sofas and also likes to hang on people whom she likes, but she hardly reacts to what they do or say. She often puts her shoe in her mouth. She is a little bit like 'Houdini', she can get out of anything that constrains her.
Her eyesight is very poor, only 5-10%, the pressure in her left eye is raised and she has cataracts on both sides. She also has a squint.
--Generals--
Weather: cold, desire wind, desire sea.
Time: amel. at night.
Desires: coffee (3), alcohol (3), coca cola (3), chocolate (3).
Aversion: sweet.
Food: amel. alcohol.
Sleep: sleeplessness, can play all night; sleeps on stomach with her face pressed into the pillow.

Analysis
The most obvious characteristic in this case is the autism. I have treated Downs syndrome in the past for colds and snuffles and other complaints, but no remedy ever seemed to touch their autistic tendencies. When I was studying the periodic table I thought at first that we could exclude the rare gases from my list of potentially useful remedies because they don't react with any other element. Until It suddenly struck me that the fact that 'they don't react to anything' is the very property of these gases that typifies their behaviour, and that would therefore typify the cases where they could be usefully applied, such as cases of autism. That is why I gave this little girl Helium.

Reaction
After Helium 1M there is a gradual but very definite improvement. She begins to talk more clearly, she is no longer afraid of other children, instead she'll join them in their games. She doesn't lie on the floor so much anymore, she will often sit quietly in a chair. She lets herself be put to bed without fuss. After 6 months and a few doses of Helium she is still developing and improving. The teacher at school is lyrical about her progress.
