Given the views of members of this panel on vaccines I wish to raise the folowing:-
Item in the paper today lists 7 countries that are putting a concerted effort into the development of a Vaccine for AIDS. Germany, France , UK, Italy Sweden, Holland and Spain .
As the theory of vaccination is that you attenuate the virus and feed it into the body -- which will then recognise it and fight it !!. BUT as people with Aids or aids related conditions ,ARC -- have a depleted immune system - how can this help ?. Afterthought - are we able to find the AIDS virus and attenuate it ?.
The other point is that the last I read on this subject , indicated that they were working on a substance that would block the receptors on cells , so that the Virus , already present , could not invade the cell and replicate itself in a "cell factory".
So in the case of point one , has someone attenuated the AIDS virus ?
Or in the case of point two why call it a "Vaccine"?.
