"He takes on responsibilities for (stupid) actions he did not commit" ?

Maybe "Delusion, he has committed a crime" or "Anxiety of conscience"?
Or even (depending on the rest of the case) "Confusion about his identity", "Errors of perception", "Impressionable", Jesting/Antics, Deceit--the more I think about it, the more I realize we need to know *why* he did this, not just *that* he did it. Do you know any more?

It depends if the emphasis is on the 'responsibility' or the 'stupid' and other reasons why one would do this.

There is the rubric 'undertakes things opposed to their intentions'.

There are many over responsible remedies + naive remedies + submissive remedies + stupefaction + idiocy, even the 'sympathetic' and 'vulnerable'' remedies might fit here.

Needs a context.
