I have to say, homeopathy works so brilliantly for acutes.
I've had two eye issues lately in kittens. The most recent was with a female kitten I call Vega. I noticed this morning that her third eyelid was swollen entirely up over her eye. I've never seen such inflammation. It was red, but not terribly. It's hard to tell with cats how much pain they are suffering, but they really do not like to be messed with no matter what the problem is. I first flushed the eye out as best I could with a saline solution. Then tried to figure out what remedy. Since she didn't have any cold symptoms previous to the episode, I chose Aconite 30c. Right before going to work, I put a bit of mineral oil in the eye to keep it lubricated so it hopefully wouldn't stick shut. Stuck eyes often cause ulcers in cats. I came home to find her eye looking almost normal! Last Tuesday I came home to find another kitten (from a different litter [note I only have three kittens on the ground right now]), the best kitten I've ever bred, a third generation naturally raised kitten, with a punctured cornea. How it happened, I don't know. There was a hole in his eye and tissue was out the hole. I've seen this before, unfortunately. Many years ago, I sold a kitten to a young couple who elected, unbeknownst to me, to treat mild upper respiratory symptoms with antibiotic eye ointment in a tube. When applying the ointment, the kitten jumped towards the tube and his cornea was punctured by it. They took him to a vet's office and were told the eye would have to be removed. While the kitten was there, he suffered what I assume was painful treatment while they flushed and examined the eye. The couple returned the kitten to me the next day and I refunded their money. I first treated this kitten, and the most recent one, for pain and trauma with Arnica -- and I went back and forth with the recent kitten between Arnica and Symph because I couldn't decide which one would be most indicated. Sorry, a neoclassical approach, but it seemed to work, as did putting him in a quiet, dark place with his mother. With the first kitten, after consultation with my homeopathic vet, we decided to treat him with Silicea. Darned if the tissue that was stick out of the eye didn't sink back in and the eye reformed normally. The only evidence was a slight cloud. I gave the kitten I have now Silicea and the first few days after the dose, he had a lot of discharge. The eye is now colored normally and he has a very small pea-shaped piece of tissue on the eye. Other than that, it seems fine. At first it was a bit misshapen and now it looks normal unless you look closely at him, which leads me to believe the piece of tissue is already getting smaller. If anyone has any comments on treating this with a remedy other than Silicea I'd like to hear them. I'm hoping the same thing will happen and because this kitten is younger and healthier, the eye may be perfectly normal when it comes time to show him. I usually follow up treatment for eye ulcers with vitamin E to help heal the scar. I plan to do this with the current kitten. I know many other cat breeders who have had similar incidents and they ended up with one eyed cats. It's unfortunate in that it may not have been necessary and it is amazing to me how allopathic doctors are so quick to rip out offending parts. I do not have to treat a lot of chronic illness in my cats because most of them were bred by me, raw fed, and unvaccinated. That 30c Washington homeopathy kit has saved me so much money, it's worth its weight in gold. The best thing though is my cats don't have to suffer the manhandling, medication side effects, and pain they would otherwise suffer if I treated them allopathically. Please say a pray that my beautiful kitten, Maud'Dib recovers completely. He is the most wonderfully healthy kitten, both mentally and physically, I've ever seen. Thank you for letting me share.
