alternative and complimentary medicine throughout Europe, is a
new project, although the idea was put forth back in 2008.

Homeopathy offers fake cures for whatever ails you

With all the swine flu-scare out there, now is a great time for
the dealers/practitioners of so-called "Complementary and
Alternative Medicine" or CAM to shill their wares and prey on a
gullible and/or misinformed public. People are scared and
confused right now, so what better time to get the word out on
some bogus treatment with little-to-no evidence of efficacy or
safety?

Diary of a homeophobe: part four

You were all right - everyone, that is, who pointed out that
homeopathy is a sham and a waste of time. And I was right, too,
or at least the half of me that secretly longs for everything I
do to end in failure. So now the time has come to be right once
and for all and to state that, for me, this particular brand of
alternative medicine is wrong. I made my decision a few weeks
ago, when I managed to catch not one but two facial skin
infections. It was probably the most physically uncomfortable
I've ever been, including that time I was burned at the stake as
a witch. And I thought: no. I took out the Protopic horrible
cream; good last resort and decided enough was enough.

Homeopathy - Why the Bad Rap?

Lately, homeopathy has been getting a beating from various
quack-busters and independent researchers, many of whom have
hidden financial ties to pharmaceutical companies. Those who
scoff at homeopathy as being nothing more than sugar pills or
placebo assert that homeopathy cannot be proven on the basis of
randomized, controlled trials RCTs, the current gold standard of
pharmaceutical drug testing. While this is a bit like comparing
apples and oranges, nevertheless some current, documented
scientific research does exist to back up the positive results
thousands of people have experienced from homeopathy during its
200+ year history.

Emami: Betting on homeopathy

Kolkata-based Emami, the Rs 2,200-crore fast moving consumer
goods major, is on the lookout for local homeopathy companies,
even sick units will do. Emami had acquired Kolkata-based M
Bhattacharyya Co, one of the countrys earliest homeopathy
companies, three years ago. The reason is not difficult to find.
The current market size for homeopathy in India is close to Rs
1,250 crore. But it is expected to grow at a fast clip.
According to the World Health Organisation, homeopathy is the
second largest system of medicine in the world and is expanding
at 20-25 per cent per annum. Globally, the market size is around
Rs 13,500 crore. It is estimated that by 2017, it will grow to
Rs 52,000 crore. Over 400 million people use homeopathy across
the world today.
