2009 is a very auspicious year for CHARLES DARWIN because it is the 200 years ago that he was born and it is 150 years ago that his seminal book, "On the Origin of Species," was published. The precise date of the publication of his book was November 24, 1859, which means that the 150th anniversary is coming up! These auspicious dates explain why we all are seeing an increasing number of references to Darwin in the popular media. Well, I am now giving you and the media one more GOOD reason to talk about Charles Darwin... I am pleased to announce that my newest article, "The Curious Case of Charles Darwin and Homeopathy," was just published by Oxford University Press' respected medical journal, eCAM (Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine). Its editor, Edwin Cooper, PhD, is a professor of immunology at UCLA, and its editorial board is international in scope. You can read it here: http://tinyurl.com/yb299hj The abstract of the article summarizes it: In 1849, Charles Darwin was so ill that he was unable to work one out of every 3 days, and after having various troubling symptoms for 2-12 years, he wrote to a friend that he was 'going the way of all flesh'. He sought treatment from Dr James Manby Gully, a medical doctor who used water cure and homeopathic medicines. Despite being highly skeptical of these treatments, he experienced a dramatic improvement in his health, though some of his digestive and skin symptoms returned various times in his life. He grew to appreciate water cure, but remained skeptical of homeopathy, even though his own experiments on insectivore plants using what can be described as homeopathic doses of ammonia salts surprised and shocked him with their significant biological effect. Darwin even expressed concern that he should publish these results. Two of Darwin's sons were as incredulous as he was, but their observations confirmed the results of his experiments. Darwin was also known to have read a book on evolution written by a homeopathic physician that Darwin described as similar to his own but 'goes much deeper.' Those of you who are familiar with my book, "The Homeopathic Revolution: Why Famous People and Cultural Heroes Choose Homeopathy," (www.HomeopathicRevolution.com) will know that much of the information in my new article is drawn from this book, though I have added more information and more references. The chapter on "Physicians and Scientists" in this book include details about the use and/or advocacy of homeopathy by Sir John Forbes, Sir William Osler, Emil Adolf von Behring, Sidney Ringer, Charles Frederick Menninger, August Bier, Royal S. Copeland, Grant Selfridge, William J. Mayo and Charles H. Mayo, C. Everett Koop, and Brian Josephson. If you too are tired of skeptics saying that homeopaths and advocates of homeopathy are "lame," you can let them know that they are "indicting" many of the most respected physicians and scientists of the last 200 years...
