I am glad that I have served in some way to alert members and visitors to this Forum of the inherent danger of taking Tamiflu and worse still of being compelled to take the vaccination that is due for release in a few months as both governments have been persuaded by Big Pharma that it will provide prophylaxis against the Swine Flu virus. The drug Tamiflu has been found to be of very little use to overcome the H1N1 virus while the inherent danger of using an untested vaccine due for release by the governments of both the US and the UK may be seen in the health of the respective populations of both countries in the years to come by those who have been unfortunate enough to have been vaccinated against their better judgement. My advice to all who seek Prophylaxis against the Swine Flu is to take Gelsemium 30 in the Wet dose just once daily till the virus dies a natural death. Gelsemium was used by me with 100% success to provide prophylaxis in Sri Lanka 2 years ago when we were plagued by the Chikun Gunya virus and I am convinced that it can do so today against the H1N1 Virus too. For those who would like to have instructions on how to make the Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy I shall repeat them below: You will need a 500ml bottle of Spring water and the smallest Liquid pack in Ethanol of the remedy which you can order from any Homeopathic Pharmacy. It is best to get the remedy in Ethanol as the standard pellets are not as effective when used to make the Wet dose. Pour out about 100ml of the water to provide some air space at the top of the bottle and insert just 2-3 drops of the remedy into the bottle. Shake the bottle hard to produce bubbles. This is also known as succussing and in doing so you potentize the remedy. You will succuss the remedy every time before you sip a teaspoonful of the remedy just once daily in the case of Gelsemium 30 if you use it as a Prophylactic against the Swine Flu. PLEASE REFUSE TO TAKE THE ANTI SWINE FLU VACCINE. 16th August 2009, 08:55 AM Dhiru Nathwani Guest Posts: n/a Re: After effects of taking Tamiflu --- Guardian Joe, how many homeopaths know that TAMIFLU is made from a homeopathic medicine listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, Illicum anisatum, also known as Illicium (Star Anise)? No wonder it is producing serious side effects in patients because the active ingredient in TAMIFLU is not potentised. I am also wondering how the active ingredient got the patent, and FDA approval. Dhiru Nathwani #9 (permalink) 16th August 2009, 12:01 PM Joe De Livera Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka Posts: 228 To Dhiru Nathwani Thank you for responding to this discussion and alerting members to news that "TAMIFLU is made from a homeopathic medicine listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, Illicum anisatum, also known as Illicium (Star Anise)?" I was not aware of this fact and if you have any further information with references, please share it with us as it would serve to increase the awareness of members and the general public. I have checked Wikipedia for Star Anise and am copying a paragraph on this plant on : Star anise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Medicinal uses Star anise has been used in a tea as a remedy for rheumatism, and the seeds are sometimes chewed after meals to aid digestion. As a warm and moving herb, Ba Jiao is used to assist in relieving cold-stagnation in the middle jiao, according to TCM. Shikimic acid, a primary feedstock used to create the anti-flu drug Tamiflu, is produced by most autotrophic organisms, but star anise is the industrial source. In 2005, there was a temporary shortage of star anise due to its use in making Tamiflu. Late in that year, a way was found of making shikimic acid artificially. Roche now derives some of the raw material it needs from fermenting E. coli bacteria. The 2009 swine flu outbreak led to another series of shortages as stocks of Tamiflu were built up around the world, sending prices soaring.[1] Star anise is grown in four provinces in China and harvested between March and May. Its also found in the south of New South Wales. The shikimic acid is extracted from the seeds in a ten-stage manufacturing process which takes a year. Reports say 90% of the harvest is already used by the Swiss pharmaceutical manufacturer Roche in making Tamiflu, but other reports say there is an abundance of the spice in the main regions - Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. Japanese star anise (Illicium anisatum), a similar tree, is not edible because it is highly toxic (due to containing sikimitoxin); instead, it has been burned as incense in Japan. Cases of illness, including "serious neurological effects, such as seizures", reported after using star anise tea may be a result of using this species. Japanese star anise contains anisatin, which causes severe inflammation of the kidneys, urinary tract and digestive organs. Using Star Anise as a remedy for colic is dangerous as referenced here." It would be wonderful if Star Anise can be Homeopathically potentized and its use tested as a Homeopathic remedy to be used against the H1N1 virus. In the meanwhile I would strongly recommend that Gelsemium 30 is used in the Wet dose taken just once daily as it has afforded 100% prophylaxis against the Chikun Gunya virus about 2 years ago in Sri Lanka and it is very likely that it can also afford the same immunity against the Swine Flu Virus.

I have just been informed by a member of the Homeopathy and More Forum that Star Anise is listed in Dr Clarke's Materia Medica on:
Illicium Anisatum. - A DICTIONARY OF PRACTICAL MATERIA MEDICA By John Henry CLARKE, M.D. Presented by Mdi-T I am copying the notes on this remedy below but I do not see any reference to its being used as a Prophylactic against any Flues. This is not unusual as most remedies which are of use in the treatment of any ailment in its raw state does not always continue with the same characteristics when potentized. I am recording this information in the hope that members who are more experienced than me will consider using it and reporting on the possibility of using it as a Prophylactic against the Swine Flu. I am still convinced that my first choice to provide protection against the H1N1 Virus is still the best and till positive information is available for Star Anise, I would recommend that anyone seeking protection uses Gelsemium 30 in the Wet dose as detailed in my last post above. Illicium Anisatum. Star Anise. Chinese Anise. N. O. Magnoliaceæ. Tincture of seeds. Clinical.─Catarrh. Colic. Cough. Hæmoptysis. Lungs, affections of. Stomach, catarrh of. Rheumatism. Thigh, pain in. Characteristics.─Illicium is a genus of Magnoliaceous shrubs or low trees with smooth entire leaves, exhaling when, bruised a strong odour of aniseed, owing to the volatile oil contained in minute pellucid dots, which may be seen by the aid of a lens. The fruit is used throughout China, Japan, and India as a condiment, and is chewed in small quantities after a meal for sweetening the breath. It has also a local repute as a stomachic and carminative. Provings were made by Franz and Mure. Both showed the action of the drug on the nose, mouth, and stomach. Franz had many symptoms on the face, especially lips, skin, and extremities. A very remarkable symptom of Franz' has been confirmed by Flora A. Waddell (H. P., vii. 427). A man suffering from rheumatism of two years' duration came limping into Dr. Waddell's office, asking if she could do anything for his limb. He complained that when he sat down he couldn't rest in that position at all. Asked why, he replied: "Whenever I sit down my limb feels as if broken off right here," pointing to the middle of his thigh). He said he often got up to straighten himself in order to make sure. He also had some pain in his arm, and severe "sore pain" in his back. Illic. 30x cured all the symptoms. Mure's symptoms were noted on head, abdomen, chest, and back. Tough white expectoration appears to be a characteristic; and this symptom has been frequently confirmed: Pain in region of third rib, about one or two inches from sternum (Junction of rib with its cartilage), generally on right side, but occasionally on left. Hering says it is useful for old asthmatics, and the stomach catarrh of old drunkards. Colic of babies. The pain in thigh is < sitting, > rising. Pains in the head are < in morning, > in evening. Relations.─Compatible after: Aco. and Bry. in hæmoptysis Compare: In chest pains, Pix, Menth. pu. Botanical, Magnol.

I regret to inform you that I am not aware of any Homeopathic remedy that can be used to antidote the H1N1 Vaccine after one is injected with it.
I shudder to even consider the after effects that can result from this Vaccine and it is my hope and Prayer that the after effects will not be any worse than the Disease itself. It is not only the immediate after effects that I am concerned with, as the long term effects can even be more dangerous than the short term. The after effects of taking the Tamiflu are now well known but the after effects of the Vaccine which is still in the experimental stage are unknown especially to children. I cannot understand how any responsible government can possibly subject its population to this vast experiment on a mandatory basis especially since the Swine Flu is now reported to be on the wane and it is very likely that when the Vaccine is ready for use, it may have disappeared completely.

Default Daily Mail on the Swine Flu
Swine flu jab link to killer nerve disease: Leaked letter reveals concern of neurologists over 25 deaths in America By Jo Macfarlane Last updated at 11:05 PM on 15th August 2009 Prevention: Is the swine flu jab safe? A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter. The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins. It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine. GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal. The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications. It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when: More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu. 500 cases of GBS were detected. The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times. The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear. The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected. Concerns have already been raised that the new vaccine has not been sufficiently tested and that the effects, especially on children, are unknown. It is being developed by pharmaceutical companies and will be given to about 13million people during the first wave of immunisation, expected to start in October. Top priority will be given to everyone aged six months to 65 with an underlying health problem, pregnant women and health professionals. The British Neurological Surveillance Unit (BNSU), part of the British Association of Neurologists, has been asked to monitor closely any cases of GBS as the vaccine is rolled out. One senior neurologist said last night: ‘I would not have the swine flu jab because of the GBS risk.’ There are concerns that there could be a repeat of what became known as the ‘1976 debacle’ in the US, where a swine flu vaccine killed 25 people – more than the virus itself. A mass vaccination was given the go-ahead by President Gerald Ford because scientists believed that the swine flu strain was similar to the one responsible for the 1918-19 pandemic, which killed half a million Americans and 20million people worldwide. Within days, symptoms of GBS were reported among those who had been immunised and 25 people died from respiratory failure after severe paralysis. One in 80,000 people came down with the condition. In contrast, just one person died of swine flu. More than 40million Americans had received the vaccine by the time the programme was stopped after ten weeks. The US Government paid out millions of dollars in compensation to those affected. The swine flu virus in the new vaccine is a slightly different strain from the 1976 virus, but the possibility of an increased incidence of GBS remains a concern. Shadow health spokesman Mike Penning said last night: ‘The last thing we want is secret letters handed around experts within the NHS. We need a vaccine but we also need to know about potential risks. ‘Our job is to make sure that the public knows what’s going on. Why is the Government not being open about this? It’s also very worrying if GPs, who will be administering the vaccine, aren’t being warned.’ Two letters were posted together to neurologists advising them of the concerns. The first, dated July 29, was written by Professor Elizabeth Miller, head of the HPA’s Immunisation Department. It says: ‘The vaccines used to combat an expected swine influenza pandemic in 1976 were shown to be associated with GBS and were withdrawn from use. ‘GBS has been identified as a condition needing enhanced surveillance when the swine flu vaccines are rolled out. ‘Reporting every case of GBS irrespective of vaccination or disease history is essential for conducting robust epidemiological analyses capable of identifying whether there is an increased risk of GBS in defined time periods after vaccination, or after influenza itself, compared with the background risk.’ The second letter, dated July 27, is from the Association of British Neurologists and is written by Dr Rustam Al-Shahi Salman, chair of its surveillance unit, and Professor Patrick Chinnery, chair of its clinical research committee. It says: ‘Traditionally, the BNSU has monitored rare diseases for long periods of time. However, the swine influenza (H1N1) pandemic has overtaken us and we need every member’s involvement with a new BNSU survey of Guillain-Barre Syndrome that will start on August 1 and run for approximately nine months. ‘Following the 1976 programme of vaccination against swine influenza in the US, a retrospective study found a possible eight-fold increase in the incidence of GBS. ‘Active prospective ascertainment of every case of GBS in the UK is required. Please tell BNSU about every case. ‘You will have seen Press coverage describing the Government’s concern about releasing a vaccine of unknown safety.’ If there are signs of a rise in GBS after the vaccination programme begins, the Government could decide to halt it. GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, leaving them unable to transmit signals to muscles effectively. It can cause partial paralysis and mostly affects the hands and feet. In serious cases, patients need to be kept on a ventilator, but it can be fatal. Death is caused by paralysis of the respiratory system, causing the victim to suffocate. It is not known exactly what causes GBS and research on the subject has been inconclusive. However, it is thought that one in a million people who have a seasonal flu vaccination could be at risk and it has also been linked to people recovering from a bout of flu of any sort. The HPA said it was part of the Government’s pandemic plan to monitor GBS cases in the event of a mass vaccination campaign, regardless of the strain of flu involved. But vaccine experts warned that the letters proved the programme was a ‘guinea-pig trial’. Dr Tom Jefferson, co-ordinator of the vaccines section of the influential Cochrane Collaboration, an independent group that reviews research, said: ‘New vaccines never behave in the way you expect them to. It may be that there is a link to GBS, which is certainly not something I would wish on anybody. ‘But it could end up being anything because one of the additives in one of the vaccines is a substance called squalene, and none of the studies we’ve extracted have any research on it at all.’ He said squalene, a naturally occurring enzyme, could potentially cause so-far-undiscovered side effects. Jackie Fletcher, founder of vaccine support group Jabs, said: ‘The Government would not be anticipating this if they didn’t think there was a connection. What we’ve got is a massive guinea-pig trial.’ Professor Chinnery said: ‘During the last swine flu pandemic, it was observed that there was an increased frequency of cases of GBS. No one knows whether it was the virus or the vaccine that caused this. ‘The purpose of the survey is for us to assess rapidly whether there is an increase in the frequency of GBS when the vaccine is released in the UK. It also increases consultants’ awareness of the condition. ‘This is a belt-and-braces approach to safety and is not something people should be substantially worried about as it’s a rare condition.’ If neurologists do identify a case of GBS, it will be logged on a central database. Details about patients, including blood samples, will be collected and monitored by the HPA. It is hoped this will help scientists establish why some people develop the condition and whether it is directly related to the vaccine. But some question why there needs to be a vaccine, given the risks. Dr Richard Halvorsen, author of The Truth About Vaccines, said: ‘For people with serious underlying health problems, the risk of dying from swine flu is probably greater than the risk of side effects from the vaccine. ‘But it would be tragic if we repeated the US example and ended up with more casualties from the jabs. ‘I applaud the Government for recognising the risk but in most cases this is a mild virus which needs a few days in bed. I’d question why we need a vaccine at all.’ Professor Miller at the HPA said: ‘This monitoring system activates pandemic plans that have been in place for a number of years. We’ll be able to get information on whether a patient has had a prior influenza illness and will look at whether influenza itself is linked to GBS. ‘We are not expecting a link to the vaccine but a link to disease, which would make having the vaccine even more important.’ The UK’s medicines watchdog, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, is already monitoring reported side effects from Tamiflu and Relenza and it is set to extend that surveillance to the vaccine. A Department of Health spokesperson said: ‘The European Medicines Agency has strict processes in place for licensing pandemic vaccines. ‘In preparing for a pandemic, appropriate trials to assess safety and the immune responses have been carried out on vaccines very similar to the swine flu vaccine. The vaccines have been shown to have a good safety profile. ‘It is extremely irresponsible to suggest that the UK would use a vaccine without careful consideration of safety issues. The UK has one of the most successful immunisation programmes in the world.’ Victim: Hilary Wilkinson spent three months in hospital after she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome When Hilary Wilkinson woke up with muscle weakness in her left arm and difficulty breathing, doctors initially put it down to a stroke. But within hours, she was on a ventilator in intensive care after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. She spent three months in hospital and had to learn how to talk and walk again. But at times, when she was being fed through a drip and needed a tracheotomy just to breathe, she doubted whether she would survive. The mother of two, 57, from Maryport, Cumbria, had been in good health until she developed a chest infection in March 2006. She gradually became so weak she could not walk downstairs. Doctors did not diagnose Guillain-Barre until her condition worsened in hospital and tests showed her reflexes slowing down. It is impossible for doctors to know how she contracted the disorder, although it is thought to be linked to some infections. Mrs Wilkinson said: ‘It was very scary. I couldn’t eat and I couldn’t speak. My arms and feet had no strength and breathing was hard. I was treated with immunoglobulin, which are proteins found in blood, to stop damage to my nerves. After ten days, I still couldn’t speak and had to mime to nurses or my family. ‘It was absolutely horrendous and I had no idea whether I would get through it. You reach very dark moments at such times and wonder how long it can last. But I’m a very determined person and I had lots of support.’ After three weeks, she was transferred to a neurological ward, where she had an MRI scan and nerve tests to assess the extent of the damage. Still unable to speak and in a wheelchair, Mrs Wilkinson eventually began gruelling physiotherapy to improve her muscle strength and movement but it was exhausting and painful. Three years later, she is almost fully recovered. She can now walk for several miles at a time, has been abroad and carries out voluntary work for a GBS Support Group helpline. She said: ‘It makes me feel wary that the Government is rolling out this vaccine without any clear idea of the GBS risk, if any. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and it certainly changed my life. ‘I’m frightened to have the swine flu vaccine if this might happen again – it’s a frightening illness and I think more research needs to be done on the effect of the vaccine.’ Hotline staff given access to confidential records Confidential NHS staff records and disciplinary complaints could be accessed by hundreds of workers manning the Government’s special swine flu hotline. They were able to browse through a database of emails containing doctors’ and nurses’ National Insurance numbers, home addresses, dates of birth, mobile phone numbers and scanned passport pages – all details that could be used fraudulently. And private and confidential complaints sent by hospitals about temporary medical staff – some of whom were named – were also made available to the call-centre workers, who were given a special password to log in to an internal NHS website. It could be a breach of the Data Protection Act. The hotline staff work for NHS Professionals, which was set up using taxpayers’ money to employ temporary medical and administrative staff for the health service. The not-for-profit company runs two of the Government’s swine flu call centres – with 300 staff in Farnborough, Hampshire, and 900 in Watford, Hertfordshire. Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley described the revelations as ‘disturbing’. Anne Mitchell, a spokeswoman for Unison, said: ‘There’s no excuse for such a fundamental breach of personal security. Action needs to be taken as soon as possible to make sure this does not happen again.’ A spokeswoman for NHS Professionals would not confirm whether access to the confidential files had been granted. Here is a lengthy accounting of what was used in 1918. Gelsemium was the most commonly used. Neither Oscillo nor Anas is mentioned.
http://www.herbaltherapeutics.net/Favorite_Remedies.pdf 1918 was also an H1N1 variation, but I don't recall that it had the level of gastric problems that current swine flu does, so I wouldn't expect Gelsemium to be the genus epidemicus this time. |

On the basis of the information on Gelsemium 30 to be used instead of the vaccine that is available at the moment, I wonder how many members have actually used it as a Prophylactic against the Swine Flu. I have distributed it in the Wet dose free of charge to many clients here in Sri Lanka and so far none has reported as having being infected by this virus which mercifully is not rampant here. The total recorded as having been infected is under 250 and there have not been any fatalities so far. Those infected have been treated in the Government Infectious Diseases Hospital which is far removed from the main General Hospital located in the city.
I cannot state categorically however that it was the Gelsemium that prevented those who used it twice weekly as being the reason for non infection but the chances are good that it did so and if there is any case of infection I shall report it on this thread. It is a pity that I am not able to carry out double blind tests to verify whether my contention that Gelsemium will save those who use it from this disease but it is just not possible in Sri Lanka to overcome the prejudice against Homeopathy that is blatantly displayed by the medical profession who prefer to treat any disease with drugs with the blessings of Big Pharma, instead of using simple remedies which have absolutely no side effects to prevent those who take it from being infected. I have conclusively proved that Gelsemium has saved many hundreds from contacting the Chikungunya virus and this fact is known to some doctors who referred their patients to me about 2 years ago but I do not have the same experience with the H1N1 virus and cannot therefore pontificate on its ability to prevent those who use it from contacting it. I am confident that Gelsemium 30 in the Wet dose can prove to be the equivalent to the vaccine which I understand will be available in both the UK and US shortly. It remains to be seen whether this vaccine will be forcibly inflicted on the general public on a mandatory basis.

I am copying an extract from Manish's article to which Dilweed has taken exception on the grounds that "Dr. Bhatia very clearly did NOT say that."
It will be seen that although Manish did not specifically state that Gelsemium was the remedy of choice, he copied an article by the Historian Julian Winston on the remedies that he had discovered during his research on the 1918 pandemic which states: "The most common remedy used was Gelsemium". I do not wish to cross swords with Dilweed on this matter of whether or not Gelsemium could substitute for the vaccine which I consider as dangerous if it is to be used on an arbitrary and mandatory basis which is most likely from the news reports that I have read so far. My intention in returning to this Otherhealth Forum after over 5 years absence was to add my thoughts to the current concern that the public has displayed on this vaccine both on my Homeopathy and More Forum and on the Otherhealth Forum especially since this vaccine is yet in the process of development. This would effectively preclude it from being subjected to the standard tests which are always used to check its efficacy and also its long term effects especially on the young. I have listed my own experience in the use of Gelsemium to provide protection to hundreds of people who were inmates of households harbouring a patient suffering from Chikungunya during the epidemic we suffered from in Sri Lanka about 2 years ago in my first post on this thread. I am happy to state that none of these inmates suffered from any cross infection although it was recorded that the members of other households with a patient were cross infected. I believe that Gelsemium will provide the same prophylaxis from the H1N1 virus as they both are virus borne diseases. I must also add that I have been handing out Wet dose bottles of Gelsemium 30 to many clients who have sought my assistance for protection against the H1N1 virus free of charge, and I am glad to state that there have been no cases reported so far of any infection among those who have taken it twice weekly. It will also be seen from Manish's article on his Hpathy forum which I copy below, that the the remedy that tops the list of other remedies that he recommends is Gelsemium. Swine Influenza in Humans, Swine Flu Symptoms, Homeopathy Treatment and Homeopathic Remedies for H1N1 Influenza Homeopathy Remedies for Swine Flu / H1N1 Influenza Why Homeopathy? Homeopathy was very successful in dealing with the 1918-19 flu pandemic. Here is a quote from the famous historian Julian Winston: Perhaps the most recent use of homeopathy in a major epidemic was during the Influenza Pandemic of 1918. The Journal of the American Institute for Homeopathy, May, 1921, had a long article about the use of homeopathy in the flu epidemic. Dr. T A McCann, from Dayton, Ohio, reported that 24,000 cases of flu treated allopathically had a mortality rate of 28.2% while 26,000 cases of flu treated homeopathically had a mortality rate of 1.05%. This last figure was supported by Dean W.A. Pearson of Philadelphia (Hahnemann College) who collected 26,795 cases of flu treated with homeopathy with the above result. The most common remedy used was Gelsemium, with occasional cases needing Bryonia and Eupatorium reported. Dr. Herbert A. Roberts from Derby, CT, said that 30 physicians in Connecticut responded to his request for data. They reported 6,602 cases with 55 deaths, which is less than 1%. Dr. Roberts was working as a physician on a troop ship during WWI. He had 81 cases of flu on the way over to Europe. He reported, "All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment. One ship lost 31 on the way." Some history of the treatment of epidemics with Homeopathy Homeopathic Remedies Considering that the Swine Flu virus produces symptoms similar to the human influenza virus, the following homeopathy medicines may prove useful in cases of swine influenza: #Gelsemium. [Gels] This remedy corresponds to the commencement of the trouble, when the patient is weak, tired and aches throughout the body. It removes speedily the intense aching and muscular soreness. There is constant chilliness and the patient hugs the fire; the fever is less acute than that of Aconite, and the cough is hard and painful. There are paroxysms of sneezing with excoriating discharge, and great torpor and apathy. Extensive experience with this remedy in the great Epidemic of 1918 proved its usefulness. Simple cases were speedily cured. Aconite will sometimes prove the better remedy for children, but the drug will never be a prominent one in influenza. Still it may be prescribed when indicated; it will, perhaps, soothe and moderate the subsequent attack, but its action is not quick here as in simple fevers, as we have to deal with a blood affection. #Baptisia. Influenza with marked gastro-intestinal symptoms may need this remedy, especially when there are putrid diarrhoea stools. Clarke considers this remedy the nearest specific for the disease; he prefers the 30th potency. Hughes also praises it, but uses it in the 1x and 2x dilutions, which seem to have more extensive testimony as to their efficacy. #Eupatorium perfoliatum. This remedy has much soreness and aching of the entire body; hoarseness and cough, with great soreness of the larynx and upper respiratory tract. Coryza with thirst. Drinking causes vomiting. The cough is a very shattering one, hurts the head and chest, and as in Drosera, the patient holds the chest with the hands. The breakbone pains are characteristic of the remedy. Add to these symptoms acute bilious derangements, and it is all the more indicated. Many physicians rely on this remedy in influenza / flu almost exclusively in the early stages. #Sabadilla. [Sabad] Sneezing is the great keynote of this remedy. Sneezing and lachrymation on going into the open air. The throat is swollen and the pain is worse on empty swallowing; the sneezing is excessive, shaking the whole body. Shudderings, with gooseflesh chills creeping upwards, are also prominent symptoms. Frontal headache, dryness of mouth, without thirst and cough, worse on lying down, are additional symptoms. It suits well many cases of the catarrhal form of flu; other remedies having sneezing are Cyclamen and Euphorbia. #Arsenicum. [Ars] This remedy covers more phases of flu than perhaps any other remedy. Hughes believes that it will cut short an attack, especially when there is a copious flow, prostration and paroxysmal coryza. Its periodicity makes it suitable to epidemics, and it suits the early symptoms when the affection is in the upper portion of the respiratory tract. The burning dryness and copious watery excoriating secretion and the involvement of the conjunctiva are unmistakable indications. Langour and prostration are prominent symptoms. #Arsenicum iodide. Chills, flushes of heat and severe fluent coryza, discharge irritating and corrosive, sneezing and prostration. It corresponds to true influenza and is highly recommended by Hale. Sanguinaria nitrate is especially valuable when the trachea and larynx are affected. Phytolacca is specific when the throat is inflamed and spotty, with great hardness and tenderness of the glands. #Dulcamara. [Dulc] This is one of our best remedies in the acute form; the eyes are suffused, the throat is sore and the cough hurts because of the muscular soreness. If brought on by damp, cold changes in the weather, so much the surer is Dulcamara indicated. #Bryonia. The trouble here is largely bronchial and going downward. When a person is very grumpy and feels miserable with the flu, wanting only to lie still and be left alone, this remedy is likely to be useful. Headache, muscle aches, and cough or stomach pain may be the major symptoms. Everything feels worse from even the slightest motion. The person’s mouth usually is dry, with a thirst for large cold drinks. #Phosphorus may be indicated, especially when the trouble moves towards the chest. It is a very useful remedy for the debility following la grippe, as it is usually of the pure nervous type. It is the great post-influenza "tonic." #Rhus toxicodendron. [Rhus-t] Influenza, with severe aching in all the bones, sneezing and coughing. The cough is worse evenings and is caused by a tickling behind the upper part of the sternum. Especially is it useful in cases brought on by exposure to dampness. There is much prostration and depression, and the patient may have some symptoms which are suspicious as pointing towards typhoid fever, such as burning tongue, stupor and delirium. Aching pains and nightly restlessness are keynotes symptoms. Causticum, like both Rhus and Eupatorium, has a tired, sore, bruised sensation all over the body and soreness in the chest when coughing, but it has in addition involuntary urination when coughing. #Allium cepa. [All-c] Profuse catarrhal coryza; the nose runs freely, there is sneezing, irritability cough, the face is swollen and looks inflamed. Camphora. This remedy is often sufficient at the outset to cut short an attack, or at least modify the severity. #Sticta. [Stict] Nasal catarrh; headache, thirst, nightly expectoration, great watering of eyes, running at nose, hoarseness of voice, frontal headache and depression of whole system. Tuberculous subjects attacked by influenza. "There is no better remedy," says Dr. Fornias,"for the incessant wearing, racking cough of this class of patients." Tuberculinum is an excellent prevention of recurring attacks of influenza / flu in those who have annual attacks. #Ipecac Adapted to cases where the gastric symptoms predominate; tongue clean or slightly coated. Nausea: with profuse saliva; vomiting of white, glairy mucus in large quantities, without relief; sleepy afterwards; worse from stooping. Low thirst. Cough: dry spasmodic, constricted, asthmatic. Difficult breathing from least exercise; violent dyspnoea, with wheezing and anxiety about the stomach. Cough, with rattling of mucus in bronchi when inspiring; threatened suffocation from mucus. Pains as if bones were all torn to pieces. #Veratrum album Adapted to diseases with rapid sinking of the vital forces; complete prostration; collapse. Cold perspiration on the forehead (over entire body, Tab. ) with nearly all complaints. Thirst: intense, unquenchable, for large quantities of very cold water and acid drinks; wants everything cold. Diarrhoea: frequent, greenish, watery, gushing: mixed with flakes: cutting colic, with cramps commencing in hands and feet and spreading all over; prostrating, after fright; < least movement; with vomiting, cold sweat on forehead during and prostration after. Vomiting: excessive with nausea and great prostration: < by drinking ( Ars. ); by least motion ( Tab. ); great weakness after.
