We are building a permanent record of natural ways people treat ailments and stay healthy, to preserve this type of know-how for future generations. In an age where the tradition of passing this knowledge down through families has been eroded by over-the-counter pills and prescriptions, we need to record this vital information before it's lost forever.

Vaccine doubles survival time

A new cancer vaccine more than doubles the survival time of patients with the most common and deadly type of brain tumour.
People diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme tumours who receive standard treatment typically live only around 14 months.
Trial patients who received the vaccine survived for an average of 33.1 months - some for much longer.
Neurosurgeon Dr John Sampson, from Duke University Medical Centre in New Carolina, US, who led the study, said: "We're more than doubling survival time in this group, and we have some patients who are four, five or six years out from diagnosis, which is virtually unheard of in these people."
A total of 23 patients who had already received standard treatments including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy took part in the trial.
All received monthly injections of the vaccine as well as a chemotherapy agent called temozolomide. The drug is thought to enhance the effects of the vaccine.
The vaccine marshals the immune system to target a protein generated by about half of all GBM tumours but not by healthy cells.
The protein allows the tumour to respond to a "growth factor" chemical in the body, spurring on more growth of the cancer.
Findings from the Phase II trial were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Asco) in Chicago.
The addition of temozolomide was a radical step, because normally chemotherapy drugs suppress the immune system. They would therefore be expected to make vaccines less effective.

I'm not sure where you found that article, but I can assure you it's not on our site. We are collecting real people's real experiences with natural and alternative therapies - what you quoted looks like a medical press release and not someone's personal story.

Perhaps you clicked through to another website from ours? We do include links to other sites that are talking about health issues, but of course we have no control over the content of these 3rd party sites.

I hope this helps explain things a bit more, and I really hope no one has been put off contributing to the Medicine Chest archive because of this.
