My four month old has a cough with alot of chest congestion, not a constant urge to cough, but when she does it is tight and sounds mucousy. It rattles when she breathes, and she is having a hard time nursing unless propped up, and even then she cries and needs to switch sides often.
She has today developed a runny nose with clear mucous. it is not streaming, just a little. Most of the congestion seems to be in her chest. Her eyes are red and watery also. She is better when being carried around or moving and outside in the fresh air.
She has not been able to fall asleep today for longer than 15 minutes, she awakens crying and looking miserable. Once she is up, she is happy and goodnatured
The last remedy she had (through me) was sulph200c when i posted earlier about her excemic rash. The rash has not completely gone away, it spread to a milder rash , but it is all over her body. Mainly on her arms and all over her back, still on her legs, butnot in a concentrated area.
I am considering either Sepia or Sulphur again. I also came up with Pulsatilla.(leaning towards sepia)

I thought i could have a little input in deciding what to give her.
Should i administer the remedy through my breastmilk? or give directly to her?
I am also showing clear Sepia symptoms .

Thanks in advance....KSC

If you can get little sugar pills they will just dissolve in the babys mouth .....if lactose pills these are bigger and you need to crush between 2 spoons and tip the powder into her mouth

Pat, Thanks for responding so quickly. Would byronia still be indicated even though she is clearly better for movement?
she likes to be jostled around and bounced

Sorry to contradict, but I have to advise against bryonia. As Pat says, it is good against some types of cough, but the child needs a constitutional prescription, not a palliation.
I haven't followed the case, but whoever advised the sulphur earlier on the constitutional symptoms should be asked now what to do.

Give no remedy, let this case clear out, its a prooving, and it must be given time to see if it heals itself, if not use a higher of the one given to antidote sulp, provided the potences worktime is through.

Thank you all,

it has been a few weeks since the sulphur was given through my breastmilk. It has been slow, but the skin condition is gradually fading away, we'll see.

This cough is similar to the cough that my son has had, i'm not sure its a proving because of the timing. Alot of people in this area have been sick like this...the tree pollen and flowers in bloom are causing many an allergy.

I've given nothing so far, if it gets worse i will post again
Thank you

Question

This condition has not gone away yet. The congestion fluctuates...gets better, then worse...it is lingering
3 nights ago she coughed alot in the night, it was a dry tickly sounding cough with some choking, i assumed that she was having drainageinto her throat, after the cough spell she slept well the rest of the night.
Last night, she woke up around 3:30 am crying...she was writhing about as if she had intestinal discomfort...nursing didn't help as she was having a hard time breathing through her nose. She held her body rigid, and didn't want to bend
The only was to stop her crying(which only made her congestion worse) was to prop her foreward and rub her back...this was only temporary, then it no longer helped her.
When i walked her around, the crying would stop, finally she slept sitting up, leaning foreward over my arm while i bounced her.... (finnaly she bent over)
When i laid her flat, she woke up and the whole cycle began anew
This seem to be allergy related as the pollen count around here is very high.

What should i try now???, i'm concerned that this is going into her ears

Many thanks, KSC

This is signs of earinfections, use warm oil in the ear, sligthly above body heat, lay her on the side two min with warm oil, both sides, this help kill of the infection, fast, and it takes pain, repeat after some time.

Gm, Thanks....this has been done as i suspected an ear infection. Her father had frequent earaches as a child.

I have never had one (at least not a painfull one ) and my son has only had a few , but never as a baby(diferent father) They seem awfully painfull!!

I assume that i should hold off on giving her a remedy, yes? I am so tempted to try because she is miserable...Why no remedy? is it to allow her own vital force to work on its own?
I have always been a little confused about treating acute symptoms....should she be given her constitutional remedy in case of illness??

i don't want to just suppress symptoms and confuse her picture as i may have done w/ my son (out of ignorance)
In the past when confronted w/ an illness i would look in my books and try to figure out the correct remedy to give, and give it with confidence (usually this worked...but at what price?)
what are the rules here?????
The oil seems to have helped a little
but i want to be prepared with possible remedies to give in case she can't sleep again tonight.
i should also mention that she is drooling alot and this may be teething related
Thanks, KSC
