Hello every body.
I have been hearing and seeing people who lost weight due to worries but recently I have come across two cases who have gained lot of weight due to continued mental stress. Both are ladies around 30 years age, menstrual cycle normal, appetite normal and I have not found any other specific symptom. Can any one put me wise on the subject and suggest homeopathic medicine for it please.
Thanks.

Hi - My two cents worth: Obesity can be a "protection" against emotional pain and stress. Some people eat too much because the food is the only thing that makes them feel good anymore. The weight gain adds a wall against the outside stressors. (nat-m) For those who are not eating more than usual it may be helpful to delve into the patient's way of dealing with the stress. What is it that they are doing differently now that they are stressed out? Is the body setting up a defense against the stress? Is the patient "swallowing" the stress instead of doing things to decrease it? It's all interconnected. Just some things to think about...

Best Regards, Dawn

Thanks. Both the patients are not doing any thing to relieve the stress. Circumstances in which they are living are beyond their control, and are not likely to change. They are just bearing it out. I think I'll go by your suggestion of Nat-m.

Thanks Mr. GM and Mr. Dawn. Can continued mental stress cause thyroid to be hypofuctional (hypothyroidism), resultantly increasing the weight? Do the worries affect thyroid in any way?

No tests have been carried out so far. The patient has not come back since last week. Initially she was not able to give much details. I'll try to get more symptoms and also the tests, if she returns.
