Question

Dark-haired woman with brown eyes and fair skin in mid-20's suffers from migraines. Started in 1996. She thought that the first one came on due to stress, as she was editor of college newspaper and working three jobs and attending college. She still gets them about twice a week. And thinks that a bad day at work is the cause of her migraines. They will start at night, around 8pm, and last all night. Will wake in the morning feeling ill. The prescription Maxolt has helped, other drugs have not.

Started taking the pill in 1994 for abnormal hair growth on chin. Woman is slightly overweight, not obese.

When she gets a migraine she says she has pain on the left side. Pain goes from eye, to forehead, to side of head. Eye feels as if someone punched it. Better for laying in a dark room with eyes shut.

When talking with her, she frequently complained about feeling tired. "Needs lot of sleep".

She says she is a light sleeper, wakes frequently, every little noise wakes her. Then feels exasperated about lack of sleep, counting the hours until she has to get up and go to work.
Sleeps on stomach. Has dreams about natural disasters: tornados, floods, fires, storms.
Says she feels sluggish in the morning. Isn't productive until 1pm and her energy lasts until 4-5pm. Then would really like to take a nap. She then gets a "second wind" around 9pm and can't fall asleep until after 11pm. Doesn't feel as if gets into deep sleep until 4am. And her alarm goes off at 7am. And the sluggish cycle begins again.
Hates to be uncovered. Can't sleep with socks on. Likes to have feet out of covers.

Chilly individual, heat does not help, tries to wear heavier clothes. Better for fresh air. (Works inside with no windows.)

Describes herself as a restless, high-strung, anxious person. Disorganization is a pet peeve. Gets irritable quickly, works better under stress. Mind overactive, thinks too many thoughts at the same time. Tends to over analyse.
Sweats under the arms, especially when nervous.
Doesn't like to wear turtleneck shirts, doesn't like the constriction around neck.
Says she suffers from restless leg disorder. If she is sleeping or sitting too long, can't keep leg still; normally left leg. (Been a few months since experienced this.)

Doesn't like colas. Craves salt. Not one to crave sweets.

Has a heightened sense of smell.

Takes an herb, cascrada ..., to cause her bowels to be regular. Goes once or twice daily with this herb, without it can go up to three weeks without a BM! Drinks a lot of water, so urinates frequently.

I have talked with her about the possiblity of discontinuing the pill. As a newlywed, she is not comfortable with this. I'm not sure with her irregular sleep if charting her temperature is an option.

Any thoughts on helping with the migraines?

Thanks!!!!

It is a very good detail of the history and symptoms. I too have studied the case in depth but let me admit that I could not find one single medicine which could cover all the symptoms. Symptoms of many medicines seem mixed up. I feel that three medicines namely, Sulphur, Nux Vomica and Lachesis may have to be given in a cycle for some time. Hopefully, most of the symptoms will go off, remaining can be studied again.

From just reading through there are keynote symptoms for Natrum muriaticum and Lachesis. I have a feeling this is an animal remedy but will post again when I've done the work properly. Interesting stuff.

I've just had a constant headache case who like this patient carried out laxative abuse and couldn't go for 2 or 3 weeks if she doesn't take them. With the rest of the case history I prescribed 1 dose Nat Mur 1M my analysis of the case being that she had to have control over things - like her bowels. She phoned today and said that she hadn't had a headache since the pillule I gave her. Nat Mur may just work in this case as well.

Sluggishness and migraine and wearisome are all found in Sepia! It's made from the ink of the cuttlefish which it uses as a ruse to escape detection from prying eyes...

So sepia 200c? 1M? Can she continue with the pill?

She needs to avoid acids, vinegar, colas and coffee, right?

Cool

Yes, but start with nm, stop the pill first, then go to Sepia, Nuv v may also be of use if no reaction on sepia use NV, then new dose of Sepia.
