Hi Pat,
You have put so much invaluable info in many threads, that I have read with great interest! Thanks for that.

I was just wondering, as my great grandmother, who lived to be 90 or so, had Alzheimers.

Is this an inherited suseptibility that you know of?

And, you also said that you were quite ill at one point - can you tell how it started - the symptoms? I hope you don't mind my asking - just very curious...and wondering.

Thanks so much for any response! Lisa

The susceptibility to Aluminium is very likely to be inherited and for anyone with a parent who had Alzheimers .......avoid Aluminium like the plague
My father died from it as did his aunt

I am sensitive to it but did not realise or get diagnosed until I quite literally got up one morning and collapsed in a heap with all the symptoms listed elsewhere on US wines Aluminium infiltration on another thread

A friend same age did the same but she was worse still .....she was actually diagnosed as Alzheimers ........but because my other friends got her to my Homeopath quickly she is fit and well too
Her mother had died from Alheimers

We were both of us only 40years old when we collapsed
Takes at least 9 months of intensive treatment in skilled hands to reverse later stages

Thanks so much, Pat - I hadn't seen the list on the other thread before I posted this one...I had a look - and it is most helpful.

I wonder how many of my pots and pans have aluminum now!!

One set, I've thrown away, and I'm now wondering about the teflon coated pans - it looks like there is aluminum under it...how to tell?? Is it safe, as long as it is covered with teflon (non-stick surface)?

How does one go about finding out which foods contain Alum? Is there a website for this?

Thanks for answering - Lisa

For me >>>>>>>>No they would not be safe

Like I said the only way to explain is

Heat Aluminium and a form of RADIATION propells the stuff into the body

I can not be in a room where the radiators are Aluminium
I Have trouble with many air conditioning/ warm air systems
I cant eat food heated in airplanes Their ovens and shelves are Aluminium

only safe things are fresh fruit, vegetables and unprocessed cereals plus anything I prepare myself

Stainless steel pans are not expensive these days so why wonder ......protect your health

A Magnet will not stick to Alumium

Lisa chops,
If you cook on gas, iron pans are the best- coated with enamel if you like as Le Creuset etc.
If you cook with electricity, change to gas - just because cooking is lots more fun with a flame. (if you can't then s. steel flat bottom pans are best)

Dear Pat....everything is expensive where we are...and our plans to move are impending...don't want to buy stuff I just have to turn around and give away...can't ship...long story, but thanks for the info...

Will be in UK in summer...perhaps I will find a fairly inexpensive set while there that I won't mind leaving behind!!

CHOPS??? - is that in jest about the Pedigree?? ....well, I guess I deserved that one!!
No chance of changing from electric to gas out here....but am getting an argo (is that the correct name?) cooker when I move to UK!! Love those! ....and in Texas, we always used iron skillets, pans, etc....can't find them out here...but will when I move!! (OH, I ove cooking on gas....and those argos are fun to cook in - had a go last summer up in Wales..the best roast I've ever tasted!! YUM!! )...thanks all....Lisa

Pat: I tried a magnet on a couple of pans that I thought were stainless steel and they fell off. There were others that the magnet stuck to so nothing wrong with magnet. Does that mean for sure there is aluminum in those pans? Or are there sometimes other metals underneath steel when it wears off? This is really bothering me. Also, this is a good case for never eating out unless you bring a magnet with you and ask the waitress to go try a pan.

JV, good idea in principle, but I don't share your aesthetic. More pleasing to have something robust don't you think?

JV - If I weren't living in the sand pit of the world ....I might just find a 'wal-mart' - it's impossible to even find a d*mn iron skillet out here ....so, I'll just have to get a nice little inexpensive setof stainless steel to haul back in my suitcase this summer....guess that means I can't shop for too many clothes...not enough luggage space ....and Dessie...you make me LOL
chop chop Lisa
