Hi! I am an 18 year old female. I have extremely bad hirsutism (male-pattern hair growth) on all parts of my body especially my face, chest, legs and arms. I have to remove hair from these areas almost daily, and it grows back very thick and coarse. I have seen doctors and endocrinologists, and they have diagnosed me with late-onset adrenal hyperplasia. Basically, my body is producing TOO much of the male hormones, especially the hormone DHEAS which showed up as extremely high on my blood tests. My menstrual cycle, and all my other hormones are at normal levels though. This started at puberty, and has gotten worse since.
I do not know what caused it, and there is no family history of such a disorder in my family either. I do not have a single female relative with this problem. Weather or any external conditions do not affect it at all...it is always the same, very fast hair growth. I am not "slim", but I am not overweight either...however, I have to exercise a lot to maintain my weight - my metabolism is not that great. Mentally/psychologically, I am fine...although the hair removal gets very frustrating sometimes. I eat relatively healthy food...just usual Indian food almost every day. My energy levels are good, and I am generally not tired (although I used to have mild anemia a few years ago). Upon the diagnosis of adrenal hyperplasia, doctors are suggesting that I start taking the drug 'Dexamethasone'. It is basically a steriod drug that is like the hormone cortisol. However, I am hesitant because it is a steriod, and it has some scary side effects...so I wanted to know if there were any homeopathic alternatives. Anything that can increase cortisol levels, and decrease androgen (DHEAS) levels. I've tried thuja and sepia before, but they didn't help. Any advice would be VERY much appreciated!! Thanks, Nina. |

Hi Gina!
No, it was not... a relative claimed to know someone with a similar problem who had found sepia and thuja useful, so my parents decided to give it a shot. Bad idea, I felt uncomfortable taking it in the first place without a trained homeopath agreeing to it, and after about 1-2 months I stopped because it wasn't making a difference. I'm going to be seeing a trained homeopathic doctor in person in August...which is still a long way to go, and I feel as though my sitaution is worsening everyday. So, I was hoping for any ideas from anyone, just so I can start thinking/researching. Thank you! ![]() |

Dear Nina
Throwing out 'try this and try that' suggestions regards homeopathy works perhaps only 5% of the time for acute cases only (simple short lasting cases one day to a few weeks-no more than one month) In verry complex cases like yours you need a homeopath who understands the complexity of miasmatic constitutional prescribing. Most often it takes one month for each yr of symptoms. Case analysis must be done constantly,a one time visit will just not do. Keep us informed as to your progress. Why do you have to wait till august? try and locate another at National Center for Homeopathy - Home Page there is a directory in that link for canadian homeopaths you might have better luck

hi every one
i have got the same kind of problem. i have very severe hirsutism and late periods which take 1, or 2 days maximum and they are so light. i have dark and coarse hair on my face and chest and feet and my DHEA , testosterone and also 8 AM cortisol levels (which excludes the diagnosis of LOAH) are all high. with esterogen and progesterone levels being very low in the pre pubertal range with normal LH, and FSH levels. i have very tired all the time, and although i dont eat much i seem not to be losing any weight. my face is usually very puffy especially at waking up in the morning and my energy level is very low. i have lost hair from my scalp in a mail pattern, and also my other symptoms is lack of breast tissue development and severe oily skin and acne. i was put on spironolactone 5 years ago (i have this condition for 8 years and im 25 now) and it had a very minor effect (almost <30% effective) and i was put on ciproterone acetate and metformin as well for 2 years with very limited results. i also received homeopathic treatment , sepia, for 4 months, with some good results durring the first month (i received the sepia once every month) but no results afterwards (also the improvements i had seen were all gone as well) can some one please help me out with my condition and tell me what could be possibly wrong with me and what types of homeopathic treatment i can get thankss so much |

If Sepia worked to some extend that is an indication the potency needs to be altered, you cannot keep taking the "SAME" potency repeatedly, thats not how homeopathy works. Via succussions the energy of the remedy needs to be altered each time you dispense it....................... Was this not what your homeopath told you?
