I am hoping to get some advice rather quickly. My mothers dog is VERY ill. Her history and illness description is as follows:

She is a blonde lab mix, she is 8 years old. I am pretty sure she was abused as a puppy. I got her when she was between 4 and 6mo. old. She is an indoor dog, VERY affectionate, very loyal, likes children, mild mannered and friendly. She absolutely does not like people who smoke. She knows who these people are and will snap if they come toward her. This is very opposite of her usual behavior. She also seems to fear other dogs and cats. She does not like separation from family, loves to go wherever family goes, loves riding in cars. Normally VERY full of energy, LOVES to go on walks. When the word "walk" is mentioned, she starts barking and running and jumping. She has her own doggy bed in the master bedroom, normally up 1 time at night to go potty. She paces back and forth on the wood floor until someone wakes up to take her out. Never has accidents inside. Normally barks when needing to go outside. Always gets doggy treats when she comes back in. She is a very fussy eater. Often needs coaxed to get her to eat her food -even when table scraps are mixed in. (her favorit people foods are chicken, pizza crust, and steak) Normally gets canned dog food. 1/2 to 1 can per day and 1/2 plate of Purina Butchers Blend. Always eats in the evening. Is not routinely fed people food only occasionally.

Regular vaccinations: DA2PL-CPV booster yearly, Rabies canine every 3 years, heartworm test yearly, followed by heartworm prevention meds. Past 2 years on Sentinel during spring, summer and fall for heartworm prevention and fleas.

On June 5th of 1999 she weighed 49 pounds. By March 17th of 2000 she weighed 38 pounds.

Present illness appears to be chronic. First noticed Feb of 98. Condition improved by June of 98. Fall of 99 symptoms returned. Treatment was antibiotics. Condition improved. Jan 2000 condition worse, takes antibiotics, March 2000 condition continues to worsen. Present condition:

NO ENERGY-but still tries to take walks. Can only walk 1/2 to 1 block. Normally she never tires. Drinking has increased to at least 1 gallon of water a day, sometimes more. No interest in ANY food. Vomits at least 4-6 times a day. (Blood in vomit and sometimes it is frothy). Very lethargic, hesitant about walking up stairs or jumping up on something, I'm not sure if she even can now. Nasal drainage produces small puddles on floor, almost always exhaled breathing is very coarse, almost like she can't. Very restless at times. Jaw has begun to squeak, pop and make strage sounds if she does try to chew on something. Eyes are light sensitive. Lymph nodes have swolen. The first time there were two lupms, one on her face and one behind her leg. This most recent time there was one the size of a baseball between her neck and front leg. The first time, Fluid was asperated and sent to the University of Illinois but results showed nothing abnormal. No swelling presently since treatment of Antibiotic (Baytril 2x day). The first time there seemed to be alot of pain with movement, but so far that has not been observed this time. Veterinarian states that liver is enlarged and her own immune system is attacing her body. Whites of eyes are yellowish. Skin is yellowish, Urine is bright yellow. Bowel Movement was bright yellow diarrhea. This past week she has been on Centrine injection and Carafate tablets. and has eaten very small amount of food. BM were becoming orage-brown and formed. Vet discontinues centrine injection and vomiting and yellow stools returned. The injection was the only thing that helped her appetite. So now she has NO interest in food again. She has also been on prednisone (2 20mg twice a day) Ocassionally fever goes up, shaking like chills at times.

Normally she would jump up and look out the window when her master comes home from work, but today when he came home she only moved her eyes to look at him.

Does anyone think homethy can help her, or is it to late since she is so bad now? For the past few nights they havn't though that she would make it through the night. If homeopathy can help her, what about any aggravations, will they be too much for her to handle?

Thank you, any information would be helpfull.

As GM points out, its late in the day to begin using remedies. However,if the China does not prove beneficial you may want to use Arsenicum album 200c. Place one tablet in 4oz of water in 8oz bottle. Always bang bottle on a firm surface 6 times before use. The dose is 1 tsp. Frequency depends on how serious situation is:

Moderate, 3-4 td, improvement should be evident within 24hrs.
Serious, every 15 mins for an hour then every hour for 3 hours then 3td for several days or as required. Improvement should be noticed within 1st hour.

Stop giving remedy when no improvement is noticed. Also stop if notice improvement and resume dosing if/when symptoms return.

Stop giving remedy if there is no improvement after 2 doses.

All the best
Frank

I thank those of you who responded, but wanted to let you know that the dog died last night before any remedy could be tried.

isamom,
If it's any small consolation, your post has helped me convince someone to at least question the vet on his use of prednisone. That case might not be too late yet. My sympathies and my thanks.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Before I'd heard of homeopathy I once had to burn and bury a whole litter of pups after they died of parvo.
