Default Agaricus muscarius (+ remedy profile)

(For member Cuallito)

Who is this poet of the night ?

Ecstacy with inner light

Doesn`t like a thunderstorm

His nervous system`s not quite right

I see him twitching through the day

Ear is itching as from hay

Makes a funny face at me

Frostbite, burning, spasming

He seems to be a fearless sort

Doing things with danger fraught

But when he came to tell his tale

He complains, his health does fail

He swears it`s cancer on the rise

Every pimple his demise

So disturbed by any sign

I try to tell him it`s benign

And then I heard he joined a troop

That helps a rather sickly group

And since that day he seems improved

But don`t you go and stimulate

This nervous mushroom into state

Best to let him just refrain

You might confuse this poor guy`s brain.

(From Materia Poetica)

Default Agaricus Muscarius

Agaricus Muscarius is among the most popular species of mushrooms used in culinary recipes and is being recomended as a nutrient. I have also come across a few diet and therapeutic supplements based on these mushrooms. Please advise whether regular use of these will have adverse effects?

Hello Baskaran,

The common name of Agaricus muscarius (Amanita muscaria) is Fly Agaric and is a toxic (!) toadstool. The name Fly Agaric is derived from its traditional use as a fly poison. This toadstool contains hallucinogens that were used by Siberian shamans to induce visionary states, and it may have formed the basis of of the ancient Hindu Soma drink and the Zoroastrian Haoma drink, due to its ability to increase strength and stamina.

The fungus has sedative properties in small doses but is highly toxic and that`s why a severe overdose can be fatal. A mild overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, breathing problems and confusion, although recovery of a mild overdose usually takes place within 24 hours.

The homeopathic remedy, however, is safe of course, and was proved in 1828 by Dr. Stapf.

To make fly poison this fungus was once crumpled into milk and it has also been used as the toxic component in flypaper.

For preparation of the homeopathic remedy the whole, fresh fungus or the dried cap is washed thoroughly and ground into a mash. It is then steeped in alcohol before being strained, diluted and succussed.

Remedy profile of Agaricus muscarius.

Those in need of (homeopathic) Agaricus muscarius may be anxious, insecure or fearful and have morbid thoughts about death. Anxiety about health may lead to an obsessive fear of having conditions such as cancer. Symptoms typically include great lethargy and an aversion to conversation, or delirium and loquacity to the point of ecstasy, elation or hypomania.

Patients for whom this remedy is most suitable are particularly sensitive to the cold when ill.

Some symptoms are worse prior to thunderstorms and after sexual intercourse.

Agaricus is taken as a hom. remedy for disorders of the nervous system that cause trembling, itching and twitching and jerking of the limbs. Such conditions include chorea, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson`s disease.

It`s also sometimes prescribed for the treatment of the delirium tremens associated with alcoholism, and for the effects of senile dementia.

It is also used to treat chillblains.

Modalities (worse or better with...) may differ for the different disorders.

Key symptoms : twitching and spasms, depression or overexcitement, fear of cancer, complaints that are worse or better after sexual intercourse, chillblains.
