Default Calendula

Greetings,

I have come across a few cases of Proud Flesh after a period of application or cleansing with 1:10 calendula. Proud Flesh is a granulating fleshy excrescence of growth extending from the chronic ulcer or wound. Two thoughts came to my mind. Either the ulcerating terrain is not properly
drained or the cleansing dilution is too strong.

" We recommend the use of Calendula in all suppurated wounds, in torpid ulcers, in bandaging of the orifices of fistula; this remedy is an ingredient of most of the Homoeopathic ointments whether for anti-septics or for cicatrices. But, we must be on our guard against its causticity. The tincture of Calendula in 1/10 or 1/15 is extremely irritant and should be applied very highly diluted. The dose of 10 drops in 100 c. c. of boiled, or distilled water is in our opinion sufficient. We have seen certain wounds or certain skins particularly susceptible which could not tolerate even that dilution. This reserve being made, we agree with all authors in acknowledging in Calendula an antiseptic and a healing power of the first order." (Rousseau)

SEPTIC CONDITIONS: Calendula

It is a great anti-septic in homoeopathy. Some American surgeons seem to have proved that we may obtain asepsis in the field of operation as perfect as painting with the mother tincture of Calendula 1/10 as with classical painting with tincture iodine. (A. L. Rousseau)

I always kept a bottle of Calendula succus in the materinity wards to be used on any lacerations and injuries. I do not know how many times the nurses have told me that they have never seen anything relieve the soreness of the lacerations as Calendula did. (A. D. Smith)

If the perineum is torn but not badly enough to require stitching up. You will find the local application of, Calendula of the utmost service to promote healing and union. (Hughes)

Calendula, it is said, will largely prevent scars, also gangrene and Tetanus when used as a dressing on wound. (I. L. Farr)

With regards
Lew

Default Yes

Calendula is good - both internally and externally.
The humble marigold, daisy and St Johns Wort are all useful vulnarys
